GENDER: The project-level Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index Distance Learning Module | CIHEAM Press Review | Scoop.it

In response to growing demand for WEAI surveys, IFPRI, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH), are developing a distance learning course for WEAI and pro-WEAI. The course will be designed to meet the needs of a range of users (e.g., quantitative analysts, monitoring & evaluation specialists, donors, field supervisors) by teaching specific skills related to the WEAI in an online learning environment. Digital certification will be provided upon successful completion.

A small but growing number of women are heading up agribusinesses in Africa, some of which are producing innovative products to combat malnutrition. 
While there are no conclusive figures on the number of women participating in agribusinesses across the continent, the African Women in Agribusiness Network (AWAN) states it works in 42 African countries, linking 1,600 women’s networks in different sectors.

For the International Women's Day, the CIHEAM reiterates its call for investment in the training, capacity building and employment of women in sustainable and innovative food systems
 The CIHEAM Member States unanimously adopted the theme of their 12th Ministerial Meeting "Strengthening the role of young people and women in the Mediterranean food systems. Future opportunities and solutions to meet the challenges"
The CAPMED  2025 (CIHEAM Action Plan for the Mediterranean) which guides the contribution of the CIHEAM to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Mediterranean region, considers the empowerment of women, notably through training, capacity building and employment, as a strategic priority
