Forty kilo­me­ters north of Málaga, in the heart of Andalusia’s Axorquia region, the tiny vil­lage of Riogordo will cel­e­brate its annual olive oil cul­ture fes­ti­val despite cur­rent COVID-19 con­tain­ment mea­sures.
This year, La Molienda de Riogordo will also inau­gu­rate an online com­pan­ion event, which will take place a few days before the fes­ti­val and is ded­i­cated to the many English-speak­ing res­i­dents of the region.

After a cold winter fol­lowed by a hot grow­ing season, Egypt is expect­ing low returns in terms of its olive oil pro­duc­tion. However, the pos­si­bil­ity of a late surge for cer­tain cul­ti­vars remains.
The fore­cast comes as Egypt, the world’s second-largest table olive pro­ducer, is in the midst of plant­ing 100 mil­lion olive trees by the end of next year.

In global terms, forecasts for Portugal point to a 25% decrease in olive production for olive oil production compared to the previous season, to 734,000 tonnes compared to 979,000 tonnes. a year earlier, according to the Portuguese National Institute of Statistics.
