Recently published in the Journal of Crustacean Biology, the study has revealed the extent of the invasion of freshwater valley systems in the Maltese islands by a number of introduced crayfish species.

Smartphone apps were recently launched for the Spot the Jellyfish and the Spot the Alien Fish campaigns. The apps take these two citizen science campaigns to a new level by allowing users to report sightings of jellyfish and of alien (non-indigenous) fish in local waters, as well as to view information on specific species and background information on the campaigns.

Fish farms around the island have been moved offshore in time for the deadline today, agreed upon between operators and the Planning Authority after a mass revocation of permits last year.
However, there is still no long-term solution in place for the tuna cages in the north, which have been moved but are being held in tow while awaiting permits for a new offshore location from which to operate.

The Low Impact Fishers of Europe (LIFE) is an umbrella organisation run by fishers for fishers. The aim of LIFE is to provide a clear and coherent voice at EU level for the previously mainly silent majority of European fishers, who are smaller scale and who use low impact fishing gears and methods, but have historically lacked dedicated and effective representation in Brussels and at Member State level.

Turkey has surpassed $928,000 in revenue from exporting 177 tons of anchovy, called hamsi in Turkish, to 11 countries since the opening season on Sept. 1, according to Anadolu Agency.
The revenues from anchovy exports in September reached $928,023, up 87 percent from the same period last year, data from the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association (DKIB) showed.
The volume of anchovy exports also rose 96 percent in the first month of the fishing season, while it stood at 90 tons during the same period in 2017, with some $495,150 of revenue.
