“This drug needs to be de-scheduled, it needs to be de-scheduled for a whole host of reasons, one of which though is to allow the VA to prescribe medicinal marijuana,

V.A. Issues New Medical Marijuana Policy For Military Veterans

V.A. Issues New Medical Marijuana Policy For Military Veterans | Cannabis | Scoop.it

In addition to the "prohibition on recommending, making referrals to or completing forms and registering Veterans for participation in State-approved marijuana programs," the new V.A. directive continues a policy that the government won't pay for veterans' medical cannabis.

It also specifies that the directive only prohibits use of medical marijuana by V.A. employees, not patients who don't work for the department.

"Veterans must not be denied VHA services solely because they are participating in State-approved marijuana programs," it says.

Can medical marijuana for veterans move forward in 2019? | Cannabis | Scoop.it
“What do you tell a veteran who has brought back invisible scars and those opioids aren’t doing a darn thing for them?” the California Democrat said in a recent interview with Military Times.

“They say cannabis works for them. How do you argue against that? I don’t think there is a legitimate argument to oppose it.”

Correa, who sits on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, has been pushing legislation since last spring that would require the Department of Veterans Affairs to research whether medical marijuana may be a safe and effective treatment for post-traumatic stress, chronic pain and other war wounds. He plans on re-introducing the measure early in the next Congress.
