Wildlife Ambassador Program Belize

Video of the day.  The Belize Wildlife Referral Clinic has a great video out showing some of their wild patients over the years, and talking about the new Wildlife Ambassador Program.

"WAP’s Mission is to improve wildlife conflict response and reduce poaching, trafficking and trade by providing law enforcement and community with relevant tools and information.

BWRC Highlights of 2018: The Wildlife Ambassador program launch. Most of BWRC's patients are victims of wildlife traffic and human wildlife conflict. So in order to save more wildlife we need the help of community members and BWRC hopes to reach out with education to solve or avoid conflict. Thanks to WWF Russel E Train and Protected Areas Conservation Trust PACT as well as San Ignacio Resort Hotel for the support for the 1st Ambassador Workshop in October.

The BWRC team will offer a tour of facilities, live auctions (we will start announcing items soon, to allow bids to be placed before the live auction), meet and greet the team, some special patient's stories (like the one pictured) and time for questions. And in between we are still looking for further entertainment ideas from our volunteers or supporters... Stay tuned for contest registration to open in the next days, THANK YOU for your support and please contact bzwildlifeclinic@gmail.com with any questions or suggestions."

Chiquibul Challenge Marathon Fundraiser

Chiquibul Challenge Marathon Fundraiser | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Belize Wildlife Referral Clinic has started a crowdfunding site to help in their goal of protecting the Scarlet Macaw.  The Chiquibul Challenge Marathon is just over 2 weeks away.  It happens on Sunday, March 17th.

"The run to raise funds.

You can help save the beautiful Scarlet Macaw!Become a fundraiser as part of the Chiquibul Challenge Marathon 2019 today and help raise money for the Belize Wildlife & Referral Clinic (BWRC) AND the Friends for Conservation and Development. As a fundraiser you can raise 20 times more than a single donor to protect this rare bird.

Run or walk a half or full marathon over logging roads in hilly terrain within the Chiquibul Forest Reserve. Breathtaking scenery combined with a friendly atmosphere makes this event magical.

More than a race, the Chiquibul Challenge Marathon supports the Scarlet Macaw Protection program. Each year, FCD spends heavily on rangers providing protection against poachers to Scarlet Macaw nestlings. In the remote Raspaculo valley, accessible only by boat and footpaths, rangers and volunteers work in shifts, camping under the nests to deter would-be poachers. There, BWRC's veterinary staff conducts Scarlet Macaw Chick health checks and treatments as needed. The result has been a drastic decrease in poaching and an increase in chick survivorship.

You can contribute to this cause by donating to our GivenGain campaign. 100% of the proceeds received by BWRC will go directly to support this effort."
