Reading Envy: A good audio book experience

Reading Envy: A good audio book experience | Audiobook Business News | Scoop.it
What makes them work? Well, there are two different narrators - Bronson Pinchot and Cassandra Campbell - and they alternate reading the stories and novels. Bronson reads Strangers on a Train and Cassandra reads The Price of Salt, which works very well, considering that most of the characters in Strangers on a Train are male and the opposite is true about The Price of Salt.

Longtime Voice Actor Rob Paulsen Starts New Venture as a VO Coach | Voice Over Commercial Auditions Casting and Information | Audiobook Business News | Scoop.it
After ten years riding the voice over crazy train I still take classes regularly, and work closely and consistently with a handful of professional coaches. Recently I decided to reach out to Rob Paulsen in hopes that I might have the opportunity to learn from him as well. Rob has been a professional voice over actor since the 1980′s having voiced over 2,000 1/2 hour animated episodes to his credit.

Bookscan's grosses for Sarah Palin's Audiobooks - Brett Arends' ROI

Bookscan's grosses for Sarah Palin's Audiobooks - Brett Arends' ROI | Audiobook Business News | Scoop.it
After all, as Andy Warhol pointed out, fame usually fades pretty fast. Sarah Palin’s fifteen minutes are almost up.

To see how much they’re worth, and how quickly they may be running out, I asked Nielsen Bookscan for data on sales of Palin’s books — the most tangible, measurable metric of her reach with the public. (Both of Palin’s books were published by Harper Collins, which, like MarketWatch, is a division of News Corp.)

In defense of audiobooks - SereneBabe - Open Salon

In defense of audiobooks - SereneBabe - Open Salon | Audiobook Business News | Scoop.it
So many of the books I've "read" in the last few years have been audio books. I try to be careful about not implying that I'm actually holding the books in my hands, reading the words, turning the pages, making notes in the margins. I say "listening to" or "working my way through" or other non-reading kinds of phrases. There was a woman I knew very briefly who apparently found me "intimidating" which baffles me. At the time I guess I was reading some kind of heavy stuff and tweeting about it a lot. She found out that most of those books were audio books and went on a passive-aggressive tweeting rant for a few days about how audio books didn't really count as books.

Stuff We Like That Maybe You Won't | NY Times Magazine | Audiobook Business News | Scoop.it
As middle age encroaches, there are several obvious signals, not just one. The most embarrassing of these is being too scatterbrained to concentrate on real, printed books. I listen every day to what used to be called books on tape, which now, because of advances in technology, must go by the ridiculous, oxymoronic name “audiobooks.” Magic talking novels!

Author Toby Frost and narrator Clive Catterall discuss Space Captain Smith. | The Iambik Audiobooks Blog | Audiobook Business News | Scoop.it
A confession: Iambik’s description of Toby Frost’s Space Captain Smith sounds frightfully similar to descriptions of jobs I’ve had. And I’d be willing to bet that I’m not the only one “destined to take on the alien threat because nobody else is available. Together with his bold crew- a skull-collecting alien lunatic, an android pilot who is actually a fugitive sex toy and a hamster called Gerald- he must collect new-age herbalist Rhianna Mitchell from the New Francisco orbiter and bring her back to the Empire in safety.”

Self-Direction for Audiobooks - Paul Ruben's Take

Self-Direction for Audiobooks - Paul Ruben's Take | Audiobook Business News | Scoop.it
Since working alone is the trend, how can a narrator – particularly when a book they’re prepping offers them vexing performance questions – compensate for either no-director-and-an-engineer or home (studio) alone?
The short answer might be: Hire the text! And given the diminishing herd of directors, the text may eventually be the only place to turn when there’s a performance-related concern.

Cutting-edge educational tools are often out of reach for teachers in many of the region’s cash-strapped school corporations. Language arts teacher Mallori Lucas, who teaches seventh grade at Union Township Middle School in Porter County, learned just that when she inquired about obtaining audio books for one of her challenged reading classes earlier in the school year.

“When I approached the school I was told they are very expensive … They just couldn’t afford it,” Lucas said.
