Our project in Skådalsveien is now a few years old and we are still very proud of it. Recently we asked Melissa Hegge to take some new pictures of it, and we have added some of them in our website's featured projects. We are really pleased by the result and we are looking forward to more collaboration with her.
The circular pavilion on the roof of our Nordre gate project is in use and accessible to new residents, with a superb view of the Oslo skyline!
Why “circular”? The structure is entirely composed of reused or surplus elements, particularly windows (recycling means turning an element into raw materials which can be used to produce a new product. It’s good but it consumes energy, while reusing means using an object as it is without treatment, so it’s even more sustainable).
We are very happy and grateful to have designed this pavilion for Aspelin Ramm with Resirqel. Our objective is to be able to implement this on larger and larger scale projects.
At the moment ByKuben - Oslos senter for byøkologi, is organizing an exhibition dedicated to the circular use of resources, at Myntagata 2, as part of the architectural triennial. Photos of the pavilion are on display, it is really great that in Oslo there is a service such as ByKuben to accelerate the city's evolution towards more circularity! The exhibition will still be open tomorrow all morning.
Our housing project Kronstadveien 20 in Bergen has been nominated again, this time for the ninth edition of the Bergen Municipality's Architecture and Urban Development Award ! The nominees' projects are on display at Festplassen. The prize will promote and reward those who, through project development, contribute to creating higher quality for Bergen's urban environment. The winner will be announced at the Town Development Conference in Grieg Hall on Friday, November 29th.
We are pleased to have delivered a zoning plan for new and exciting homes with immediate proximity to the forest at Klemetsrud.
The main concept of the project is a continuation of the traditional “tun” which is characteristic of many buildings in the area. “Tun” is a Norwegian word for an open space defined by its surrounding buildings referring back to traditional building layouts from the 10th century.
With a variety of housing types and sizes, beautiful common areas and easy access to car-free and green living areas, we look forward to taking this project on to the next phase!
We are thrilled to welcome Artur Ganczarek in our team!
Artur graduated 12 years ago from the Cracow University of Technology as a landscape architect with a master thesis focused on the transformation of ancient limestone mines into valuable landscapes and recreational areas.
For many years he worked as the head of the design department in a company dedicated to the landscaping of green public spaces and historical parks in Kraków, which is cited as one of Europe's most beautiful cities (its Old Town was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Artur also gained experience by cooperating with other landscape architects from Edinburgh, Munich and Amsterdam.
Huge thanks to both Runa and Johan who last Friday took us all on a really great local (and very eco friendly) study trip right here in Oslo!
NCC gave us a tour of their brand-new office building, Valle Wood, which is built in massive wood and timber. We walked through Ensjø, where we will transform the interior of Petersborhuset on behalf of Ferd Sosiale Entreprenører - we are really happy to start work on this lovely historic building!
We also visited one of our recent projects at Grønlandsleiret 27, a successful and sustainable transformation with a cool roof-terrace in Grønland that we delivered to Thon Eiendom.
In the inner courtyards of Sørenga we explored how important the use of colour is! We enjoyed the view and a glass of champagne from Merete Dyrud’s roof- terrace, many thanks to her.
Crossing Kvadraturen we caught a glimpse of a circular and exciting potential project, more news to come. At the end of the day we recovered from the 15km walk by enjoying ourselves with some delicious food and drinks at the cosy Japanese restaurant Night Pig!
Alliance architecture studio has joined the sustainability network group EGN Norge! Sharing experiences across disciplines and industry is needed to find the best solutions.
It's great to see a nice review of Ling Ling and also to see our building portrayed in Aftenposten this weekend!
The new interior by Radius really shines and we can't wait to see their work on the restaurant interior for our soon to be finished building in Nordre gate, Grünerløkka.
Hedda was an intern at Alliance last Spring and has now started with us as a newly trained architect! She has done her master's thesis on the reuse of building materials, and is very keen on applying a mindset involving circular economy to create lasting and beautiful architecture. We are delighted to welcome her to our team!
We recently submitted our zoning plan proposal for the houses and apartment blocks in Vesthellingen, for our client Team Bygg AS! https://www.vesthellingen.no
Last week we sent the building permit application for Trebyen in Jørpeland! Since we regulated the site in 2017 we have continued the collaboration with Ryfylket Eiendomsutvikling AS and Masiv Bygg AS, now we have achieved this milestone together.
Situated in the centre of Jørpeland, Trebyen has a beautiful view over Vågen, which the residents can enjoy from their spacious balconies. The project consists of six buildings with commercial spaces facing the streets and 58 apartments. The buildings surround the internal courtyard with common play and outdoor areas with connections to both the city and the surrounding landscape. To earn its’ name, the project is clad with natural wood with a warm tone of color on all façades, both walls and roofs.
An important milestone has been reached! The building permit application for the exciting school project Vardheia, was submitted on June 7. The school will be located in this verdant field, in the rolling landscape of Jæren, adjacent to the township of Bryne. The school will welcome 450 new pupils in the Fall of 2021. We’ve actually built in this neighborhood previously; Tu school is just a short walk from the site.
Our collaborating partners are Jærentreprenør (contractor) and Time municipality.
Situated in an attractive residential area, close to Bergen, the infill project Kronstadveien 20 is just recently completed. A successful collaboration with Solar Eiendom AS has resulted in a project comprising row houses and semi-detached houses. Contrasting the existing, surrounding, older houses, the project simultaneously reinterprets the choice of material, pitched roofs and volumes. The private roof terraces create a triangular cut in the roof, contributing to the projects interesting architectural expression. Both facades and the roofs are clad in wood.
From words to action! We are contributing to a change in the construction industry by carrying out the transformation of the Petersborghuset in Ensjø in line with circular principles. We use recycled materials and reused materials and also design new elements for future reuse. Lohne & Lauritzsen focus on a sustainable construction site and for example use only bicycles for transports.
Petersborghuset will become a gathering point for young people in the neighborhood and will be run by Kirkens bymisjon. Changing building processes and the use of material are important and effective measures to achieve the sustainability goals.
Completion in January 2020. In the meantime, we are looking forward to seeing the reused flooring being finished. More info coming!
BYGG21 magazine recently interviewed Tarjei Halvor Torgersen, one of our four managing partners at Alliance. Tarjei narrated how our multi-use complex in Nordre gate is a great example of how we implement sustainability and circularity. As our project processes are evolving, increasingly adapting to BYGG21's methodology and all the while using BREEAM as a framework to assess the results regarding sustainability.
Tarjei mentioned the fact that we are noticing a positive evolution in the industry; the investment required for more sustainable building is becoming a mainstream matter, which is a great thing.
The magazine was widely distributed as an addition to the national edition of DN and also at the BYGG Reis Deg.
We are really happy to welcome Tarjei Halvor Torgersen as he joins Angelica Kveen, Asger Hedegaard Christensen and Peter Constantineanu as one of the four managing partners.
Tarjei joined Alliance Arkitekturstudio in the spring of 2018. He fills an important role in our organization as the main production coordinator along with the project managers. He has expertise and interest in renovation and sustainable design, extensive knowledge and experience of the building process from a-z and a really sharp eye for the details. He has held a BREEAM-NOR AP since 2016. Tarjei is a really great guy and is a fantastic addition to the office.
As part of our ongoing commitment to shared ownership we’re also proud to announce three new associate partners - Elizabeth Schilling, Kristoffer Johan Gulbrandsen and Aleksander Hvitfeldt Rene.
Both Kristoffer and Alexander are very talented architects and are essential in the evolution of the office, while Elizabeth is doing an amazing job working on our finances, sales and business strategy as our office manager.
Yesterday our office had the pleasure to enjoy a guided tour of the awesome exhibition ‘Wasteland‘ by Lendager Group in Lilleaker, many thanks to our guide!
This exhibition is arranged by Mustad Eiendom. It shows how actors across the construction business community can contribute to achieve Norway's climate goal of reducing CO2 emissions and creating more jobs through sustainable urban development. Really inspiring and very relevant!
We are thrilled that our housing project in Kronstadveien 20 has been nominated as one of three finalists for the residential building award at the Bo i Bergen real estate conference!
Today, Alliance architecture studio has signed the Bygg21-signature and supports the best practices defined by Bygg21. We want to help the construction industry develop to be as sustainable as possible!
The old Japanese wood-treatment technique, Shou Sugi Ban, applied on the façade of our latest massive wood project in Grunerløkka.
Alliance's insight:
A few words about the cladding: The old Japanese wood-treatment technique, Shou Sugi Ban, applied on the façade of our latest massive wood project in Grunerløkka. It`s also called charred ore pine. The materials come from Hallingdal and Valdres in Norway and are delivered from Svenneby sawmill in Østfold.
Burning the planks is thought to extract the resin in the material to its surface and thus provide an extra durable skin and lifespan. The black colour increases the temperature of the cladding and makes it dry up faster when wet – which also contributes to longer lasting wood. Svenneby sawmill and Treteknisk are starting up a research project soon with this treatment as the main theme, and we will follow the research with great interest!
We have submitted plans for two properties at Paradis in Bergen. The entire zone is a transformation area, and the plan proposal allows for the development of new apartments and townhouses.
In the Nordre gate project we have designed a series of multifunctional systems to manage storm water and meet sustainable purposes. We have, for example, created a 600 m2 green roof for water retention, which not only mitigates storm water run off, but also contributes to the maximization of green spaces in the heart of Grünerløkka, (a highly urbanized area of Oslo). One third of the total area of this roof is dedicated to planting beds that can hold enough soil to grow trees and lush vegetation, as well as edible roots, vegetables and herbs.
The project aims to proliferate urban food production and create a lively place for neighbours’ social interaction. The planting plans have been designed to create a wild-looking lush garden with low maintenance requirements where grasses and perennials blend together to configure a 4-seasons landscape.
Nordre gate roof garden also seeks to increase urban biodiversity in the center of Oslo. The plants selection, among others, include different species of cherry trees, Eryngiums or Perovskias, has a focus on aesthetic, chromatic or aromatic properties, as well as on the properties of these particular plants to attract bees, birds and butterflies.
We had the pleasure of being invited to present our projects when Archus arkitekter arranged a seminar about architecture and wood. Partner and creative director Angelica Kveen spoke about the housing project in Nordre gate where we're building with cross laminated timber and with re-used materials, and where the residents will have common areas as an extra quality. The afternoon finished with a tour of the construction site.
