"The Iraqi Flight Medic Course is a highly specialized medical course that requires extra training in an aviation environment. The g oal of this text-based study material is to help the flight medic students to easily understand the important aero -medical subjects in an organized way that makes it simple and easy for them. The idea behind that is to summarize the course study material in such a way that will help the students to rapidly review the course at any time. Most of the course material is directly taken from the United States Army School of Aviation Medicine; Fort Rucker, Alabama.
The New Iraqi Air Force has established the English Language Proficiency as one of its core values and that gave me the idea to combine both the English and the Arabic texts together in writing the course material. I avoided the word -to-word translation and I tried to use the concept-to-concept translation of course material to help the students to learn the English Language and at the same time understand the course material. I tried to use my medical background as a physician which helped me to put the scientific information of the course into simple words that are easy to understand and I hope that will in turn increase their overall performance. I hope that this text-based course material can help in the success of the Iraqi Flight Medic Course at the Iraqi Air Force Training School to graduate more qualified flight medic personnel to serve in the New Iraqi Air Force to save the lives of their fellows."

"Translation difficulties are often the reflection of the differences between the source and target cultures and linguistic systems. This research is a practical step towards identifying cultural and linguistic difficulties in English/Arabic translation. The researcher chose Al Azhar University-Palestine as a case study in order to base the recommendations of this research on actual difficulties encountered by students learning English/Arabic translation. The researcher chose 26 texts dealing with different Western cultural subjects. Ten texts were devoted to political subjects in Western, and particularly British, culture. Another ten texts dealt with different Western, and particularly British, social subjects. Six texts were related to important concepts in Christianity. Seven students from the English Department at Al Azhar University-Palestine were asked to translate these texts. The researcher analysed 177 translated texts and identified various linguistic and cultural problems in their translations. On the basis of this research, I make practical recommendations to improve translation teaching at Al Azhar University-Palestine. These recommendations are mainly related to providing practical and wider pedagogical perspectives inEnglish/Arabic translation. The researcher suggests practical techniques and exercises to overcome each area of linguistic, stylistic and cultural difficulties in English/Arabic translation."

"The UNSD Glossary of Environment Statistics which was published in 1997, is a quick reference tool for terms and definitions relevant to environmental data production and use. It covers the areas of environment statistics, environmental and sustainable development indicators, and environmental accounting. In selecting the terms, the focus has been on the requirements of environmental statisticians and environmental accountants, with some reference to the possible use of environmental data in management and policy analysis. While catering to the needs of data producers, the glossary might thus also be useful for data users. An updated web version was produced in 2001 and was based on the UNSD Glossary on Environment Statistics and the glossary contained in the Handbook of National Accounting: Integrated Environmental Accounting - An Operational Manual which was published in 2000."

"The James Lind Library has been created to help people understand fair tests of treatments in health care. The principles of fair tests are explained in essays available in Arabic (ربي), Chinese (中文), English, French (français), Russian (русский язык), Portuguese (Português) and Spanish (español). In addition, three books written for the public are available here for free download. One of the books - Testing Treatments - is available in 2 editions and seven languages at www.testingtreatments.org. To illustrate the evolution of fair tests of treatments, the James Lind Library also contains images of key passages from manuscripts, books, journal articles and other relevant material supplied mainly by the Sibbald Library of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. The JLL Bulletin contains original articles about the history of fair tests."
