Depuis maintenant deux ans, l'ICTP n'a cessé d'expérimenter avec l'impression 3d personnelle au point de créer un laboratoire composé de nombreux modèles différents d'imprimantes 3d personnelles (Reprap, Makerbot, Ultimaker, Printrbot, etc.) dont on peut suivre les aventures sur l'excellent blog « A girl with a 3d printer ».
De cette expérience, a surgi une autre initiative tout aussi excellente, el « Low cost 3d printing workshop for science, education and sustainable development» qui vient de se réaliser à Trieste (6-8 mai) et qui a réuni pendant trois jours des dizaines de personnes qui utilisent quotidiennement, dans des domaines tout à fait différents, cette technologie ainsi que les outils qui lui sont associés.
