Jack Dorsey was born on November 19, 1976 in St. Louis Missouri. He attended Missouri University of Science and Technology then transferred to New York University where he first came up with the idea for Twitter with Biz Stone and Evan Williams. Dorsey started Twitter with the idea of just updating a status, and nothing else. At first it was called Obvious, but after 2 weeks the name changed to Twitter.

Dorsey started off as Twitter’s chief executive officer and over-saw the startup through two rounds of capital funding by the venture capitalists who backed the company. On October 16, 2008, Evan Williams, who is one of Dorsey’s friends who helped with witht he start-up of Twitter, took over the role of CEO, and Dorsey became chairman of the board. On October 4, 2010, Williams announced that he was stepping down as CEO. Dick Costolo, formerly Twitter's chief operating officer, became CEO. Dorsey rejoined Twitter in March 2011 as chief executive officer again. Dorsey's net worth is around $650 million and Twitter's revenue is around $259.9 million.

Dorsey and Zuckerberg both dropped out of college to pursue other activies, both in the computer business. They both are entrepreneurs in the computer software industry. While Zuckerbert did most of the work alone, Dorsey had help from a few people. Both wanted to create social networking sites that were easy to use and access. In the business sense, both Facebook and Twitter opperate about the same. Both Twitter and Facebook what's called a API (application programing interface). According to HowStuffWorks.com, an API is what let's everyone's profile look different but work the same.

Mark Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984 in White Plains, New York. His parents are Edward and Karen Zuckerberg and he has 3 sisters named Randi, Donna, and Arielle. He was 19 when he founded Facebook in his Harvard dorm room on Febuary 4, 2004. According to Wikipedia, it is thought that he got the idea from the Phillips Exeter Academy (a prep school that he graduated from). The academy published a student directory that they students called "The Facebook."

Social networking benefits society in many ways. Some are; increased communication, valuable computer skills, contact with people around the world, and being able to acess information quickly. In June 2009, the US State Department asked Twitter to not go ahead and complete a scheduled network upgrade that would have taken it offline. They asked them not to do it because Twitter was said to have been extremely important to the Iranian protests after to presidential election that had just taken place. Twiter agreed to not go offline. Facebook and Twitter have both been called more than helpful in presidential elections and major world events.

When Facebook was created, Zuckerberg wanted it to be personal. It was supposed to be something to contact friends and family and be able to share pictures, videos, and memories. It was ment to have a personal touch. On the other hand, Twitter is supposed to be a public thing, with as little details as possible. Accoding to Squidoo, more people spend time on Twitter because it's faster and easier to use than Facebook. Also, according to Entrepreneur.com, more businesses use Facebook than Twitter because they think it keeps them closer to their customers. In how Facebook and Twitter run their business, it's almost the same except Dorsey has less power over Twitter than Zuckerberg has over Facebook. Also, Facebook stock has recently gone public.
