Lab Techniques & Safety

Green, H. (2013). 'Lab Techniques & Safety: Crash Course Chemistry #21'. Retrieved April 10, 2014, from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRWRmIEHr3A

Miss Lund's insight:

This video takes you through safety in the laboratory which is extremely important to know and abide by. Breaking the rules will result in not participating in the experiments.

You will need to watch this video and bring back your completed laboratory safety form and permission form (signed by both you and your parents) before you begin your experiment tomorrow.

Crystal Growing

Salter's Chemistry Club. (2005). 'Crystal Growing'. Retrieved April 10, 2014, from http://resources.schoolscience.co.uk/salters/pdfs/volone/SCC1_Prac4.pdf

Miss Lund's insight:

This is the experiment we will be working on this lesson. Read through the procedure and complete the experiments in groups at your bench. Leave the crystals (in the beakers) on the bench at the back of the laboratory, labelled with your names.

Record observations every lesson in relation to size, shape and colour of the crystals. By the lesson on Monday in two weeks time, you will need to have emailed me a discussion to answer the following questions:

What happened to the crystals as days passed? Why do you think that happened?

What could you alter next time for a different result? What would that result be? Note: this will require further investigation.
