Teaching Narrative Writing

Teaching Narrative Writing | Young Adult Readers | Scoop.it

http://theturbulencetraining.com/teaching-narrative-writing.html When we narrate something to the audience, it means that we tell them a story. This story can also be a personal experience that we have gone through at sometime in our lives. However, there are certain rules and methods in which narrative writing is done and we must be aware of them to write...

Don’t Confuse ‘Quirks’ With ‘Characterization’

As writers we strive to bring our characters alive on the page.

There are three levels — three dimensions – of characterization: simply inserting a character into a story, at any level (this level, is, by the way, sufficient for background players and walk-ons)… the backstory and inner landscape that explains choices and demons… and what the character does, sometimes in spite of that backstory.

Too much characterization? Too little? Prioritize

Too much characterization? Too little? Prioritize | Young Adult Readers | Scoop.it

Is there such a thing as too much characterization? By that, I mean, can you invest too much time into developing some characters to the point of derailing a project?

I'd argue that yes, you can. Not every character warrants developing a back story, motivation, wound. If you did take the time to do that for every walk-on, a story could quickly become tangent-riddled every time someone new entered a scene.

Invisible Children Documentary

This Is The story of INVISIBLE CHILDREN...In the spring of 2003, three young filmmakers traveled to Africa in search of a story. What started out as a filmmaking adventure transformed into much more when these boys from Southern California discovered a tragedy that disgusted and inspired them, a tragedy where children are both the weapons and the victims.

After returning to the States, they created the documentary "Invisible Children: Rough Cut," a film that exposes the tragic realities of northern Uganda.s night commuters and child soldiers.

The film was originally shown to friends and family, but has now been seen by millions of people. The overwhelming response has been, "How can I help?" To answer this question, the non-profit Invisible Children, Inc. was created, giving compassionate individuals an effective way to respond to the situation.
