I call out Bow Pose (Dhanurasana). Everyone in the class reaches back, grabbing ankles or feet, and, on an inhale, kick back. Everyone feels the effort being exerted and it begins to show on their faces. Brows begin to furrow and lips tense. A telling grimace begins to take shape.

“It’s good to be a beginner to yoga,” Jen, one of my teachers said to a class mixed with both experienced and brand spanking new practitioners. “As a beginner you don’t have any bad habits.”

I’ve been bringing this idea to my yoga classes of late. Perhaps I picked it up from some other teacher, maybe a blog post, or it could be that I had an original thought. Who knows?!? It goes a little like this…
