Even the best teachers have bad days... | Writing Skills | Scoop.it

We are all human and teaching is an extremely challenging job. No one would dispute that. That isn’t to say, those of us who are passionate about what we do don’t love the thrill of challenge, but even with that love comes frustration.

When teachers are dealing with so many personalities all the time, as well as trying to manage their lives outside of work, bad days can happen.

Whether teaching or parent-teaching at TLA, this is a truth. We all have bad days and make mistakes. Your mistake can be used by God for good for those you were trying to serve. So be ready to forgive yourself after you ask others to forgive you.

11 Customer Experience Trends for 2016 (The Year of Emotion)

11 Customer Experience Trends for 2016 (The Year of Emotion) | Writing Skills | Scoop.it
It’s once again the time of year for me to publish my CX trends. In my post last year I named 2015 “The Year of Employee.” With this post, I’m declaring 2016 “The Year of Emotion.”
In the upcoming year, CX will continue to grow in importance for companies and an even larger number of organizations will begin their CX journeys. In this environment, we expect to see:
Culture Change Intensifying. Peter Drucker once said, “Culture eats strategy for lunch.” We agree and believe that customer experience is a reflection an organization’s culture and operating processes. As you can see in our video Driving CX Transformation, customer-centric culture requires mastering four CX core competencies: Purposeful Leadership, Compelling Brand Values, Employee Engagement, and Customer Connectedness. We saw a surge of interest in the topic of culture in 2015, and we expect even more executives to begin the long-term journey of culture change in 2016.
Effort Metric Expanding. Every interaction has three components: Success, Effort, and Emotion. Companies have started to use versions of an “effort” score as a key CX metric, because it provides a good mechanism for identifying areas of improvement. We expect this trend to intensify, and for effort to become a more mainstream topic next year. See the 2015 Temkin Effort Ratings.
Customer Journey Designing. Customer journey mapping has become one of the most popular CX tools as it helps provide a customer-oriented viewpoint. While many of these efforts have been heavily focused on isolated mapping events, we expect to see companies use the lessons from CJM to drive more decisions and changes across their organizations. As this happens, we recommend that more companies adopt what we call Customer Journey Thinking©.
Mobile, Mobile, Mobile… Continuing. Mobile continues to become a more dominant interaction channel… and through increasingly varied types of devices. In 2016, we expect more companies to get beyond the basic level of making mobile-friendly websites and launching mobile apps. Organizations will rethink their offerings and operating processes, baking in assumptions that customers and employees are continuously connected.

7 Tips For Managing High-Impact Teams

7 Tips For Managing High-Impact Teams | Writing Skills | Scoop.it

Most business leaders can agree that teamwork is important for getting anything done. But the agreement usually stops there. In many cases, the company's immediate needs take over, and there's seldom enough time for deep thought about how to actually develop an effective team.

Groups of people are often thrown together and told to get to work. And while many organizations do well when it comes to a team's technical aspects, like bringing in people with the right expertise and establishing deadlines, the less quantifiable, "people-building" element tends to get lost. With a little effort and foresight, though, managers and team leaders can avoid some of the most common problems plaguing teams.

The Marketer's Guide to Developing a Strong Corporate and Brand Identity

The Marketer's Guide to Developing a Strong Corporate and Brand Identity | Writing Skills | Scoop.it
Chances are, if someone mentions GoPro, you think of a super-sturdy camera for the adventurous.

Why's that? Because GoPro has done a good job defining its brand. Great brands like GoPro are easy to recognize. Their missions are clear, and they foster that customer loyalty all businesses crave.

A brand is one of the most valuable assets of a business, and it needs to be carefully crafted to ensure it properly and authentically represents the business.

Crafting a brand is a shared endeavor, though. Customers, employees, blog readers (sound familiar?), and anyone who interacts with a business has a role in shaping the brand, which is why we've created a very short survey to see what HubSpot means to you. Because what it means to you will help us deliver on your expectations. (We'll get to that a little later in the post.)

Do you know how your brand is doing? Does your business have a brand identity?

5 Simple Ways to Give Yourself Amazing Confidence

5 Simple Ways to Give Yourself Amazing Confidence | Writing Skills | Scoop.it

How much do you believe in yourself? For most of the answer is: not enough. Instead of looking proudly at our accomplishments, we focus on the things we haven't yet done, and on the mistakes we've made. No wonder we find it hard to pitch big clients and investors, sell ourselves as the best, or demand the pay we deserve.

The problem is that many of us take an unrealistically negative view of ourselves and our work, says executive coach and bestselling author Wendy Capland. "We teeter between thinking 'I'm not enough,' and 'I'm not even ready to be enough,'" she says.

But we don't have to stay there. There are simple things we all can do to get a more clear-eyed--and positive--view of ourselves and our accomplishments. And then, Capland says, "We can step into who we already are."

Here are some simple techniques that work well for Capland's clients, and for Capland herself. Try them next time you need to increase your own confidence:

Instructional Coaches: How Do You Evaluate Your Impact? | Coaching | LEARNing To LEARN | Writing Skills | Scoop.it
Instructional coaches (IC's) are one group that are a bit more removed from students. Don't jump to any negative conclusions with that last sentence. What I mean is that, although they impact students in positive ways, they are a bit more separated from the consistent daily involvement that classroom teachers have with students.

Instructional coaches can have an enormous impact on the teaching and learning that happens in a school. Technology coaches help bridge the learning gap between teachers and technology. Content coaches can help teachers gain a better understanding of standards and subjects. Instructional coaches can help teachers improve their instructional practices in any subject at any time.

There are at least five reasons why schools should have instructional coaches. It's not that all teachers are weak and need help. It's about the idea that we all have blind spots (Otto Scharmer) and coaches can help others see their blind spots. According to this article in the New Yorker, even doctors have coaches to help them improve and see their blind spots.

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 24, 2015 11:38 AM

I chose this article because I have a grave concern for the viability for public education and am always interested in hearing insights about what must be "fixed". Wasting gifts, talents and abilities - Yes, the educational system does not seem to value many unique and specific talents. Instead, test achievement is valued! The author says that "The other issue is that there are not many jobs in the world that pay people to be good test takers". I wholeheartedly agree! a pencil paper task does not necessarily suggest one's capability of learning and accomplishing specific tasks associated with an occupation or profession. Another thing that I'm contemplating from this article that is a very complex issue: "...there is a danger of educational technology shaping us more than us shaping the technology". I believe that this threshold is sometimes exceeded. Electronic resources are meant to compliment and augment teaching.
