Bright Medusa's curator insight, January 22, 2014 11:38 AM

The best piece of advice to just get started is to just get started. I (and many other novice writers) fear not getting it perfect out of the gate. There’s a nugget of wisdom in only commiting to do the first 80% of the writing. That is, get it about 80% of the way there. The first draft. Unpretty. Unpolished. Then pass it to someone you trust for edits and critiques. This helps keep momentum going and prevents you from getting stuck, unsure how to pull it together or finish it up.
