How Important Is Writing by Hand in This Digital Age?

How Important Is Writing by Hand in This Digital Age? | Scriveners' Trappings | Scoop.it

"Given the opportunity to take notes by hand or on the computer, most students choose the latter. After all, modern technology offers plenty of benefits for writers.... Convenience, however, doesn’t trump old-fashioned writing by hand when it comes to learning. Writing by hand has benefits that technology has not been able to reproduce – yet."

Scooped from Eirini - I do love that you acknowledged the way in which digital storytelling in an English classroom fosters authentic learning through student direction. I think students could gain a real sense of identity and relevance with this, utilising their own voice beyond writing words on paper. I can also deeply appreciate the multi-functionality of this resource as it is inclusive and flexible to suit the way in which a student CHOOSES to present their story and learning. Looking more deeply at transforming this further, perhaps students accompany this with an animation that reflects an issue they are passionate about but still links with the curriculum for that unit. I would love to challenge students to connect with someone in the community to tell their story in a creative way and share it back to them.

Scooped via Eirini - as we develop our digital environments many of our storytelling is now shown through movies rather than reading the books. Digital storytelling is a fantastic way to implement technology and digital literacy into the classroom, such as audiobooks allowing students to hear the book read to them.
This app would also be helping those students who struggle with reading allowing them to work at the same pace as their fellow students. They are not felt left out or at a disadvantage.
