Why I'm Willing to Pay More Taxes for Mental Health Services | Wright & Associates Insurance Newsletter | Scoop.it
In Canada, I quickly realized, depression is one of the only life-threatening illnesses that you have to be rich to get proper treatment for. Since 1961, Canadians have taken care of our neighbours, our family, and our friends if they have illnesses ...
Wright & Associates's insight:

While more people are actually suffer from mental health issues each year than heart disease and diabetes combined. According to the Mental Health Commission, 6.7 million of Canadians suffer from mental illnesses compared with 1.4 million people who live with heart disease and 2.2 million with type 2 diabetes. Those staggering numbers mean that most people know and care about at least one person who is struggling with mental illness. Those numbers also mean that mental health issues cost the Canadian economy $50 billion per year in lost productivity and other costs.

Three-year-old looking at years of treatment at Hospital for Sick Children
Wright & Associates's insight:

So very sad to see something like this happening.  I think it is something we see all too often,,,"a trust fund has been set up".  You never want to see this happen to any child and you don't realize the devastating and life-changing effects it will have on your family until you are going through it yourself.

My heart goes out to the family and I hope for the best.

It is surprising the someone at Sick Kids hasn't suggested the Trillium Drug Benefits program.  It would certainly help the family.

Story of how Critical illness insurance can help when you are diagnosed with a serious illness such as cancer, stroke or heart attack.
Wright & Associates's insight:

If you ask anyone that has benefited from a CI policy, their only regret usually is that they didn’t buy more of it. It truly is one of the best insurance policies one can buy, just ask someone that has been diagnosed, whether they wish they had an extra 1, 2 or 300 thousand dollars tax free to use for whatever they want  or need.

Will you get a paycheque if you suffer a heart attack?  You may survive physically, but will you survive financially?  For more information about protecting your financial security in case of a heart attack, heart disease, cancer, stroke, or other critical illnesses, contact us at info@wrightassociates.ca.

The insurance "say-do gap": Many Canadians not protecting what they say matters most

The insurance "say-do gap": Many Canadians not protecting what they say matters most | Wright & Associates Insurance Newsletter | Scoop.it

While critical illness, disability, and long-term care insurance are seemingly not the top insurance priorities for Canadians, when asked to rank the top three things they would invest their money in to protect, 68 per cent ranked 'the financial well-being of [their] family' and 61 per cent ranked 'my quality of life in old age' among their top three.  Both of these things can be severely negatively affected by an unexpected illness or disability, a risk that can be offset with insurance products.

Wright & Associates's insight:

Do you have a well laid out insurance plan to cover your needs and wants?  Contact us at 1-877-242-9116 for a free evaluation of your current insurance portfolio.  Insurance is an important part of your investment plan and should be considered the foundation.  Make sure you have a strong foundation.

The cost of cancer: How much do cancer drugs cost Canadians?

The cost of cancer: How much do cancer drugs cost Canadians? | Wright & Associates Insurance Newsletter | Scoop.it
Wright & Associates's insight:

The fate of some Canadians – in health and in medical coverage – is ultimately determined by the drugs that’ll hopefully save them.
