Intel Launches Digital Magazine Curated by Employees: iQ by Intel

Intel Launches Digital Magazine Curated by Employees: iQ by Intel | WorldWideWeb | Scoop.it

Excerpted from article:

"It looks like Flipboard; aggregates and posts content like Reddit; and presents news visually, like Newsmap. And it's from Intel. Intel iQ is a social-publishing platform and the tech giant's latest content-marketing experiment.

IQ resembles a digital magazine but is curated by Intel employees. A story gets to the iQ front page when a certain number of people recommend it. The goal is to "connect with a younger audience and tell them the bigger story of who we are as a brand," said Editor-in-Chief Bryan Rhoads. "Many of them don't know, so we need to tell them the story of Intel that is beyond PCs and beyond processors."

Mr. Rhoads will sometimes place staff-written or important stories on the page, but most articles will appear democratically and make it on their own merits.

On page, each story box appears with a photo and a tag: "IQ Original" for staff-written and freelance-commissioned articles, "iQ Network" for content written by partner companies such as Discovery or Vice, or "Via" for pieces from an outside source. The last tag is followed by the name of the publication, for instance, "via Mashable."

Bryan Rhoads, editor in chief of Intel iQ
Each story box grows visually as social media -- clicks, shares, freshness, relevancy and other data from around the web -- is added."

Shel Holtz: Smarter Curation for Enterprises

Shel Holtz: Smarter Curation for Enterprises | WorldWideWeb | Scoop.it

Excerpt from the article:

"Shel Holtz has more than 35 years’ experience of organisational communications, in in-house and consulting roles with mostly Fortune 500 companies.

We asked Shel about how mid- to large-sized organisations can focus their curation efforts, and he outlines four ways organisations large and small can benefit now:

1. Curating news around events as an alternative to pitching for traditional media coverage:

Take a product launch — they could curate who’s saying what from among their customers, partners and consumers. It’s an opportunity to create a resource and put it up on their media page.

2. Curating trusted, publicly accessible resource to increase reputation:

A high quality curation of content can reflect well on the organisation, increasing its reputation. It could be done by a team or a single employee, selecting what is relevant, pulling it into one place, commenting on why it’s important, and then making it accessible.

3. Giving employees access to social media, so they can share internally curated news outside the organisation...

4. Curating to help employees work smarter:

An example is external news on the intranet. Lots of intranets offer it, but often it comes from an external provider and is like a firehose — some of it not so relevant, and you can have multiple versions of the same story from different media outlets...."

In this article Shel Holtz gives other many examples.
