Digits - Love Is Only Affection

'Love Is Only Affection' is one of Digits' clearest pieces of work yet, with minimalist synths and a killer 4/4 groove. The (potentially not safe for work) video tells the story of an alien falling to Earth and witnessing scenes of human sexuality – it’s a sci-fi narrative, but one that’s less Star Wars and more The Man Who Fell To Earth.

Those electronic bands that we hoped would release an album in 2012 but didn’t quite get around to it

Those electronic bands that we hoped would release an album in 2012 but didn’t quite get around to it | Worldwide SynthPop | Scoop.it

As fans of electronic music one can’t help look forward to 2013, even it means another painful rising of inevitably-dashed expectations of another Depeche Mode album.

CHVRCHES - Saviours of Synthpop?

CHVRCHES - Saviours of Synthpop? | Worldwide SynthPop | Scoop.it

They’ve become the most talked about electropop act since LITTLE BOOTS, LA ROUX, LADYHAWKE and LADY GAGA were highlighted in Caroline Sullivan’s Slaves To Synth article of Autumn 2008 in The Guardian. And they have also just made the long list for ‘The Blog Sound of 2013’ and we are proud to say they were one of our nominations for this prestigious poll.

A longing for Indian Rubber

1989 - pretty hardcore fan and collector. Popped into HMV for my usual browse thru the 'E' section of the 12 inches. Wasn't really expecting much, but nearly had a heart attack when I saw the plain black sleeve with the hole in the middle, and those mysterious two words on the centre disc label - "INDIAN RUBBER".

Inital reaction: "WTF?? WTF is Indian Rubber? - Is it a bootleg? Must be. Is it Erasure? It says Erasure .... but Indian Rubber?? WTF??"

I really miss all that ...... that childish excitement, the buzz, that real passion for the music.  But most of all ..... I really miss the vinyl.

Little Boots - Smalltown Boy (Bronski Beat cover)

We have never really embraced the hype surrounding 'Little Boots'.  Young Miss Hesketh has always been a bit of an enigma, where (in our opinion) she seems to come across as a little too cool for school. It's like she doesn't know where she fits.

However, she has pulled off a cracking cover of Bronski Beat's "Smalltown Boy" for the latest Ministry of Sound compilation. So we'll let her off just now ..... :-)

Introducing ...... CHURCHES

Introducing ...... CHURCHES | Worldwide SynthPop | Scoop.it

'Churches' are the Scottish trio, Iain Cook, Martin Doherty and Lauren Mayberry, who seem to be made up like something of a  super-group from members of other Scottish bands. The compound pop that the group create may at first seem like another keyboard-led electro pop tune with a female singer, but there’s a refined quality that definitely raises your pulse. Something tells us that this group are armed with exactly what’s required to make a success of it.

Yazoo vs. OMD - Bad Connection To Orleans (Matt Pop Remix)

Matt Pop is a producer and remixer from The Netherlands. Since sharing his un-official remixes with the world through YouTube, more and more official remixes have been commissioned.

Here is one from the vaults that he has just uploaded to his YouTube page. Yazoo take on The Waltz Of Joan Of Arc, except, in this mix, it somehow isn't a waltz anymore.

Awesome!!

Queen of Hearts - Only Love (Ben Howard cover)

Before the release of her EP of new material in September,  electro-pop songstress, Queen of Hearts, has just unleashed a s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g cover of Ben Howard‘s“Only Love.” Mizz Heart’s rendition takes the acoustic guitar-led original, replaces the core with a thick, juicy slab of shimmering Robyn-esque synth-pop, wraps it in dreamy electronica and tops it all off with some heaven-sent coos. The result? Something truly divine.

Father Tiger - On Christmas Day

Last month we posted the video for Father Tiger's single 'Everyone Knows' ( http://sco.lt/88Kg09 ), which comes from their forthcoming 'Winter Solstice' EP .......

....... AND, if your going to release a Winter 'themed' EP,  there really is one other must-have ingredient -  a Synthpop Christmas song.

The guys have really excelled themselves here. Not only do we have a cracking little Chrimbo ditty, it also comes with a fantastic video portraying the modern day Mr & Mrs Claus dealing with their own very different set of priorities.

...... AND to top it all off, you can download a free copy of the single "On Christmas Day" right here: http://bit.ly/OnChristmasDayMP3

The Young Professionals (TYP) - Be With You Tonight

Be With You Tonight', from TYP's debut album '9AM to 5PM, 5PM to Whenever', pays homage to Alain Resnais' hypnotic, high fashion romance 'Last Year at Marienbad', and features the "fire on ice" collection by French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.

The single contains a sample from Joe Dassin's "Et si tu n'existais pas", taken from the famed francophone New York singer/songwriter's 1975 album, 'Le costume blanc'.

Father Tiger - Everyone Knows

'Everyone Knows' is the lead Single from Father Tiger's forthcoming 'Winter Solstice' EP.
We're big fans of these guys from LA and have waxed lyrical about their catchy brand of synthpop many times already. One of the real stand-outs are Greg Delson's impressively strong vocals - something which can be a bit of a rarity in the Synth-pop genre.

If the rest of the EP is as enjoyable as this little nugget, then we are in for a real Christmas treat.

AND ONE - Killing The Mercy

'And One', and especially lead singer, Steve Naghavi, have always taken the word 'baritone' and gave it that extra kick in the unmentionables. A bit like marmite though - you either like it or you don't.

What everyone will LOVE though, is the new single 'Killing the Mercy'. Taken from their latest album 'S.T.O.P', the track has a  hard-hitting, dare-I-say 'Depeche-like' cutting edge, and a fantastic, dark and sexy video to go with it.

Enjoy :-)

Parralox - Sharper Than A Knife (Pete Hammond Remix) - Lyric Video

Pete Hammond from PWL has done a Kylie on Parralox's 'Sharper than a Knife', and it definitely oozes with that late 80s Stock, Aitken and Waterman vibe.

...... and , if you're going to do a lyric video, then THIS is how it should be done.

Prizes for spotting the album covers. Clue ..... heavily weighted to a genre that involves the heavy use of blips, bleeps and loads of other good noises :-)

Father Tiger - Shell (Official Video)

Los Angeles based synthpop duo, Father Tiger, have released a video for the song 'Shell', taken from their recent imaginatively titled EP ..... "EP1"

What makes this music video that little bit extra-special is the fact that every frame of video footage and still image was shot on an iPhone 4. To top it all off, after editing, every frame was exported back to the iPhone and processed individually in Instagram. That's over 5,000 images people! No wonder it took over three months to complete.

For more info and a 'Making of / Behind the scenes' clip see - http://fathertiger.com/shell-music-video/
