FilmFestDiva (Yvonne McCormack-Lyons)'s insight:

The verdict is still out by many African Americans as to whether the Oscars should be boycotted or not.  Kevin Hart, Whoopi and others are still planning to not only attend but participate.  Are you going to watch?  Do you agree with Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith that people of color should boycott due to lack of inclusion?  Or is it better to stick with it and try to bring about change from within?

How the Media Failed Women in 2013 - YouTube

There was a lot to celebrate this year for women in the media. But some things aren't changing fast enough...
FilmFestDiva (Yvonne McCormack-Lyons)'s insight:

This is a great video from the Representation Project reflecting on some of the great things that happened for women in film and television.  It also reminds us of how much further we need to go.

Anyone who has a mother, sister, wife or daughter should be concerned about the images that continue to depict women in over sexualized, inferior or stereotypical ways.

My first writing job: ‘Orange Is the New Black’

My first writing job: ‘Orange Is the New Black’ | Women In Film & TV | Scoop.it
The Orange writing staff is currently comprised of five women and two men. Outside the cozy bubble of our room, only 30.5% of television writers are women.
FilmFestDiva (Yvonne McCormack-Lyons)'s insight:

Unfortunately, this number mirrors the number of women who are in control of the media we consume in alll areas, including film.

And since adults and especially since our children are consuming more and more media (with the onslaught of the internet), it is even more important for women to be involved behind the scenes.

FilmFestDiva (Yvonne McCormack-Lyons)'s comment, August 14, 2013 8:55 PM
Well it's unfortunate that an actress as talented as Cate would even have to think about her looks being peculiar. Women in Hollywood often too much defined by how they look. True Hollywood and the movie business is so much about image. But when you have some of the greatest actors who can make us become absorbed into a character and a story, looks are so unimportant
