We Ask New Employees To Take A Two-Week Paid Vacation On Their First Day
Business Insider
Vacations have always been hard for me. It's a weird thing to say, but it's true. They just don't come naturally to me.
LeanneStewart's insight:

Brilliant! "What this means is that when you get a job offer from us, you’ll pick a start date. And that’s the day we start your payroll.  And that’s the day you leave for vacation.

And you get to take that time to transition from one chapter of your life to the next. If your startup just failed or you hated your last job, you get a couple weeks of mental and physical recovery. If you have a significant other that’s been dying to get away with you, you can go away someplace nice knowing that your first paycheck will be waiting for you when you return.

You’re mentally free to completely let go."

Get Innovation Right: Tap Into Women Over Forty

Get Innovation Right: Tap Into Women Over Forty | Women in Business | Scoop.it
I still remember that moment in junior high school when I realized I wouldn’t, and couldn’t, become an Olympic ice skater.
LeanneStewart's insight:

Yes! "...if you are seeking innovation, which at its essence is the ability to go from stuck to unstuck, to move forward not backward, it is more likely to happen after forty, not before... If we want an injection of innovation, it’s time we recognize that life doesn’t end at age 40. On the contrary, at age 40 we’re just getting to the best part. After spending years on the low end of the S-curve of experience, we are now ready to accelerate into a sweet spot of competence and contribution."

Eric_Determined / Eric Silverstein's curator insight, August 28, 2013 1:22 PM

Jennifer Beck highlights clearly where brands can make an impact: "As brands circle in on what will make their customer experiences more engaging, get the basics right first. Consumers today are drawn to your company’s values as much as they’re persuaded by the value of your products and services. So push decision-making way out to the front lines to those customer touch points. Empower your systems and your people to make decisions on behalf of every customer.  How you get treated as an individual matters more than a discount coupon. And anyone can offer a coupon. Not every brand can offer a memorable experience."

It's not rocket science!

The tragic irony of feminists trashing each other

The tragic irony of feminists trashing each other | Women in Business | Scoop.it
Jill Filipovic: 'Sisterhood is powerful. It kills sisters,' noted a friend of Shulamith Firestone.
LeanneStewart's insight:

Something to strive for? "In a more perfect world – or at least, a more perfect movement – we could have a variety of feminisms, each serving a variety of women, and all recognizing the fact that "woman", as a category, encompasses all sorts of different human beings with different needs. We wouldn't need to draw exact lines around who is or isn't an acceptable feminist. "Feminism" would be big-tent: so long as you work to promote social, political and economic gender equality, you're in."
