The Independent Wine Review: Paolini e Stanford

The Independent Wine Review: Paolini e Stanford | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Paolini e Stanford is a young winery located between Grottammare and Ascoli Piceno in the region of Marche. Founded by Dwight Stanford and Raffaele Paolini in 2008 (with 35,000 vines being planted in the same year), today the winery has around 6 hectares of vineyards planted with a mix of indigenous and international grape varieties.

One of the first wineries to bring French clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot to Marche, Italian clones of Syrah, Montepulciano and Pecorino are also grown. All of the vines are dry farmed and the winery team also only use organic practises.
Extensive green harvesting is undertaken to ensure that substantial flavoural concentration is achieved in the Paolini e Stanford wines, despite the relatively young age of the vineyards and all maturation is undertaken in French oak. [...]
Mariano Pallottini's insight:

Many people consider Paolini e Stanford a winery with a great potential for the future. Read this article that demonstrates how the young wines, the great scores for debut releases, the “international” in flavour profile, constitute the base for the winery to become a protagonist in Italy

Dynamic and innovative are the two terms the best describe Fazi Battaglia. Yet, it is a winery of great history and world fame, the one who made the fortunes of Verdicchio, one of Italy's most cherished native grape varieties.

Marche wines are not so known outside Italy and foreigners always remain surprised when, visiting this wonderful region, they discover the high quality and the wide range of products of the local wine makers. Going by cantine is always a good solution to get in touch with local people and to enjoy the countryside landscape, since they are always far away from the main cities, rounded by wineyards as far as the eye can see. In Marches this is even more true, since you have to get lost on secondary roads in the greenery of the Marchisan hills to reach some of the places we are going to suggest you...

Le Marche Wines: Boccadigabbia, A Winery in the Wake of Napoleon

Le Marche Wines: Boccadigabbia, A Winery in the Wake of Napoleon | Wines and People | Scoop.it
The winery I am talking about is Boccadigabbia, by the Adriatic Sea, just outside Civitanova. My visit became the optimal combination of wine and history.
Mariano Pallottini's insight:

In the early 1800s the Napoleonic kingdom of Italy annexed territory in Le Marche formerly owned by the Papacy or religious orders. Shortly thereafter this territory became a very large estate known as the "Amministrazione Bonaparte." One portion of this estate was known as the "Boccadigabbia Podere" and was used for wine growing....

The most enjoyable way to get you know our wines is, for us, to invite you in Crespaia.
Crespaia was established in 2011 on the slopes of the ancient Prelato, nestled among the olives tree and the rolling hills encircling Fano. Despite its being a young establishment, it deeply cheerishes and values its land and long-standing heritage.
In italian, the name Crespaia calls to mind the rippling creases of the sea (increspature), and the farmyard (aia), the latter being a place of encounters and exchange, and ideally combines the energy they both emanate

Wine tasting at Dezi

Wine tasting at Dezi | Wines and People | Scoop.it

The Dezi winery has a range of two white wines and three red wines from €8 to €25 a bottle. The two reds – Solo and Regina del Bosco – are the most expensive price point and both are delicious, although we finally settled on Solo as our favourite. Of the two whites, Solagne is the cheapest and the drier wine, while P. is a syrupy honey coloured blend. We preferred Solagne after much deliberation. So, after lots of wine tasting ( it’s no problem for them to open all the bottles for you) we bought a box of mixed wines and were given some lovely bottles of their own olive oil to take away.

From the Lacrima wine region and grape variety, a rosé with an image of the flower garden about it; bring on a rather novel, vivid geranium aroma with scenty roses too! It has a lovely light strawberry tinge to the colour. The taste is a little watery, but strawberries and cream are surely there. It's creamy and bright and more like an (over) subtle mixed fruit juice than a wine.
