Wine: Take a European staycation with these varieties | Wines and People | Scoop.it
Traveling to Europe for a summer vacation? If you cannot afford to go abroad, try some of these European wines for a staycation on your back patio instead. I love European vacations, and for this staycation of wine, I have chosen three of my favorite wine countries: Italy, France and Spain. I've traveled to each of these countries' wine regions numerous times and cannot wait to return — there is always something new to learn with wine.

Technical details
They contain a brief description of the firms, the tasting report on their two selected wines and a mention of the other wines produced.

Tastings
They have been carried out blindly by the AIS Marche Tasting Panel, coordinated by the tireless Giannetto Pergolotti, following the methodology and the wine testing card used by the ltalian Association of Sommeliers. it provides an assessment of each wine together with a final score expressed in points out of 100. The panel give a specific organoleptic analysis for each tasted wine and suggest a dish to be combined with.
There is also an indication concerning: type, grapes, alcohol content and an indicative sale price for each wine, which is declared by the producers themselves.

The 50 excellences
The Woodpecker’ is the symbol of the
Marche Region, which testifies the great bond with the territory, it means excellence. That’s why that symbol has been assigned to the wines that have achieved the maximum score and which have also particularly impressed the Tasting Panel for their qualitative aspect.

Piggybank
An interesting parameter for the consumer is the positive price/quality ratio, which is indicated in the guidebook with the symbol of a piggybank. This ratio is calculated using a specific algorithm that takes into account the price of the wine declared by the producer and the qualitative assessment resulting from the professional tastings. The data obtained are further parameterized to the overall quality of the analyzed samples, making the result an actual mirror of the importance of the regional production.

English
Almost all texts of this guidebook have an English translation in order to make it useful to a larger number of users.

Swept Away to Ascoli Piceno: Wine Tasting, Seafood & Grottammare Coast!

Swept Away to Ascoli Piceno: Wine Tasting, Seafood & Grottammare Coast! | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Last night we had our last “field” trip as an entire group of UNH students and it definitely was a bittersweet moment. As a group we took a trip to Grottammare where we got to experience an authentic wine tasting at an actual Italian Vineyard. We took a tour of a vineyard called Le Caniette and got to see and learn about how they make all their different types of wine and where they store it. The man who owned the vineyard was very passionate about how he makes his wine and his philosophy is that the quality of the wine is based upon how the grapes are not grown and the time spent tending to their health rather than the time spent in the lab fermenting the grapes and adding flavor. The trademark wine of the vineyard is called Mellone, which is a red wine specifically from this region of Italy. [...]

Le Marche: the underestimated wine region of Italy

Le Marche: the underestimated wine region of Italy | Wines and People | Scoop.it

A significant 40% of its production is DOP wine, and another 33% is from the single IGP Marche. This makes the region somewhat unusual in that 73% of production is DOC or IGP compared to the regional average of under 50%.  A lot of should-be-good wine is falling into ignominious obscurity. [...]

Susan Hulme presents you Le Marche, Region of Wines

Susan Hulme presents you Le Marche, Region of Wines | Wines and People | Scoop.it

The Marche is surprising in its riches. It has breath-taking snow-covered mountains inland where the spine of the Apennines form a backbone through Italy from north to south. Inland too, away from the coast, the landscape is full of undulating, wooded hills, peppered with picturesque towns and villages and fast flowing turquoise-green rivers. Wood smoke fills the air in the cobbled, steep streets of the many walled medieval towns such as the famous towns of Jesi and Urbino.

Jesi is known to many wine lovers as being the source of one of Italy’s most famous dry, white wines, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi.  Over the years as I have taught wine courses and talked about the crisp, dry white wine with the long name, sold formerly in the distinctive amphora-shaped bottle [...]

Wine and Food in the regions of Marche

Wine and Food in the regions of Marche | Wines and People | Scoop.it

Marche, like most of Italy has wine and food that are special to the region. In the wine area, they are sepcifcally known for their white wines, but they have some good red wines too. Wine in the area was first influenced by the Etruscans, and later the Romans and the Lombards. Within the region, there are many different grape growing conditions which are called terroirs. These different growing conditions consist of different climates, soils, altitude, the position of the vines on slopes, and the presence of water in the area. There are various climates in the region because of the Apennine Mountains, the Adriatic sea and the region’s rivers. These various landscapes make it so that the region has cool and warm zones; so the same grape could be grown in three different places, but taste differently because it has higher altitude or richer soil or more rainfall. About 60,000 acres of Marche are covered by vineyards; these vines produces approximately two million hector liters of wine annually. Most of this wine is sold as Vino di Tavola or under the Indicazione Geografica Tipica title: IGT Marche. The majority of Marche’s DOC wines are both red and white wines. [...]
