Blood on the cellar floor - Robert Parker sues Antonio Galloni

Blood on the cellar floor - Robert Parker sues Antonio Galloni | Wine in the World | Scoop.it
The Wine Advocate files suit against Antonio Galloni for "Fraud, Breach of Contractual Obligations and the intentional and unjustifiable withholding of tasting notes and articles."
David Swaddle's insight:

Is that the dull thud of egos clashing I hear?

Wine power-house Robert Parker is suing his ex-contributor Antonio Galloni for withholding work. Galloni claims that it was incomplete when he left and wouldn't do justice to the region.

With the background of a multi-million dollar takeover of Parker's Wine Advocate publicastion, and Galloni moving on to set up his own competitor, there's a lot at stake here.

This article is well worth a read, providing background to the entertaining fight to follow. However it works out, I predict blood on the cellar floor.

Wine brand's four-word label causes controversy

Wine brand's four-word label causes controversy | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Let me know "If You See Kay". Go on, say it fast.

This wine's label may be causing offence, but I wonder what it tastes like. Some think it's tasteless, me I think it's amusing.

Australians and Americans to get Naked

Australians and Americans to get Naked | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Naked Wines, investing £5.5m in American and Australian vineyard projects as part of its international expansion.

This forward-thinking outfit is using its Angels' cash to snap up vineyard deals in the Australian and American markets. The money should gain Naked further sources of great wines at significantly reduced prices, while still working for the growers.

Naked is also launching retail websites in both markets, it seems. Maybe I'll be shopping Naked in Sydney soon?

Drew Barrymore Launches Wine - NY Post

Drew Barrymore Launches Wine - NY Post | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Drew Barrymore has joined the slew of actors and musicians launching their own wines.

In this case she doesn't own the vineyard, make the wine or grow the grapes herself. She just licenses her name to go on the bottle and provides a lot of PR potential.

It might not be all bad though. It was awarded a gold medal at Le Challenge International du Vin, France’s largest international wine competition. So maybe this is more than a bland alcohol delivery device?

Still, it seems a little odd to me to have a recovering alcoholic's name plastered on the bottle. Did they really think this one through??

Marquette Anyone?

Marquette Anyone? | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Marquette is a grape variety that seems to be getting some traction in cooler vineyards to the north of the USA.

It's interesting to read that there's an academic project trying to find grapes that work well in marginal areas and how best to handle them. This sort of work can only help improve wines.

Somebody, send me a bottle to try!

Randall Grahm believes in transparency in wine production: he listed on every bottle all the ingredients used in producing his wine. And yet nobody seems to notice.

Treasury 100% sustainable in California

Treasury 100% sustainable in California | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Treasury Wine Estates (TWE) has announced that all of it's Californinan vineyards have been certified as sustainable.

This is no small achievement. As the largest wine-only company in the world, it is admirable that they're pushing sustainable farming practices so effectively. If anybody wants proof that you can be good to the land, and to your product, without busting the bank then this is it.

They've also admirably cut their energy consumption by around 20% over the past three years.

A taste of Petrus & Vega Sicilia at Benoit - NYT

A taste of Petrus & Vega Sicilia at Benoit - NYT | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

Benoit, Alain Ducasse's NYC restaurant, is serving up a stunning range of wines in tasting samples.

Is blowing a couple of thousand dollars on a bottle of Château Pétrus a bit out of your budget? Always wondered what Vega Sicilia tastes like? Now you can try a range of blockbuster wines in 1oz (~30ml) samples.

A range of wines are kept in a dispensing machine, allowing sommelier André Compeyre to offer a stunning range.

If only I were in New York, though the pratice of offering tasting samples is all the rage from Hong Kong to London.

Virginia Wine Signs

Virginia Wine Signs | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

17 highway signs are being installed in Virginia to highlight the American Viticultural Areas.

In a genius marketing move, the wine producers of Virginia have decided it's time to tell visitors that they're there.

There are some great wines in Virginia, but they can be a bit tricky to find - even when you're over there. At least you'll know that you're in the right area now.

Whatever next? Signs to the actual vineyards??

Disney's Wine Bar

Disney's Wine Bar | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

A new wine bar will open in May at the Italy pavilion inside Disney's Epcot Center.

Featuring more than 200 Italian wines, this should be a pleasant place to escape the hoards of screaming kids and over-excited over-eaters.

Does this mean that America is getting slightly less paranoid about booze?

US Pinot Picks - Bloomberg | Wine in the World | Scoop.it

John Mariani whizzes through a great set of Pinot Noir wines, all from the USA.

I like this article. He points out how lower alcohol levels suit pinots and suggests a few at affordable prices that people might like to try.

Personally, I can only vouch for the Coppola, which I remember finding a little over-ripe. Who has tried any of these?
