Maine is still far form the goal of 2,000 megawatts produced by wind power by 2015, but new projects could boost out numbers into the 1,000s. With the federal Production Tax Credit expiring soon with the new year, many people are concerned about the possible drop in development. That could mean loss of work and jobs, but interest in Maine does not seem to have been affected. The state has 11 operating wind farms and several more are in process, expected this/next year.

Maine wind power is currently generating around 500 megawatts, close to enough to supply about 175,000 homes. It is still far form the goal of 2,000 megawatts by 2015, but new projects could boost the wattage to nearly 1,000. However, the federal Production Tax Credit is going to expire with the new year. This creates concern because wind power is a very important development. With less orders and developer plans being made, people could lose work from the shortage of building new wind power.
