Ever since the 2016 US elections and the fake news scandal that Facebook faced, Facebook has been taking steps to ensure that the platform is trustworthy. It created a system which enabled third party fact checkers to flag stories that were outright lies and hoaxes. A few months back, Facebook banned pages from promoting a link or a story that leaded back to a false story. Facebook has been trying to remove misinformation from the platform altogether. Another step in that direction was just announced when Facebook said in a blog post that it will pages from advertising on Facebook if they share fake news repeatedly. Facebook did not specify how many times count as ‘repeatedly’, just that if they ‘repeatedly share stories marked as false’ by third-party fact-checkers, they will be blocked from Facebook ads. The reason Facebook has not given a number is apparently that people will start tricking the system if they know it. Another thing to note here is that the ban will not be permanent. It would be kind of like a parole period. If the pages remain on good behavior and don’t share fake news in that time, the ban will be lifted and they will be able to advertise on Facebook again. This step really brings home the point that Facebook is genuinely trying to make the platform as legit as possible, even at the cost of its ad revenue. Sure, this short term hold back will benefit Facebook in the long run but still, it makes a huge statement.

People advertise their brands through traditional marketing to increase their audience and sales. They create Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media profiles for social media marketing to achieve that same goal. Some even go the extra mile of setting up Google ads as well. All of these methods are conventional and what most marketers rely on today. But despite all these methods, acquiring new followers and customers is becoming harder and harder with each passing day. This holds true especially for new or small businesses. They need every way they can get traffic. They should use these conventional ways but they need to add in a few of the non-traditional ways to they marketing mix as well.

You must have seen articles on the internet telling you that you need to personalize your brand. That if you keep being a constant sales pitch, always talk about your products or services and almost sound like a robot, it will not do you good in your social media marketing campaigns. It’s great advice! So, you try to think of ways that you can do that without seeming too desperate. What if I told you there is a simple way you can do that and you won’t have to do a thing? Yes, it’s that simple. Let your employees use social media platforms during work hours. A few pictures of your employees working together, having lunch or having fun will do wonders for personalizing your brand.
Deanna Joyce Salom Gabriel's curator insight, March 8, 9:26 PM
In this day and age, social media is becoming more involved in the workplace. In my opinion, this is a really good thing. Before, employers would not let employees be on their social media platforms. However, this is better for their company. The suggestions from this article are insightful. The main topics are valuable news and insight, increase of focus in distractions, word of mouth, and coworkers getting along. These suggestions are good reasons to use social media in companies. The most intriguing suggestion to me is number 2, “distractions can increase focus”. Getting distracted does seem ironic, like the article says but having breaks does help employees be focused. Setting ground rules when it comes to social media will help a company rather than hurt the company unless employees break those ground rules. Rather than seeing the bad side of social media platforms, it’s better to integrate social media.

If your business has a website,  you need to consider how secure the data that is transmitted from your server to your website visitors, actually is. If your business is involved in B2B sales or has any e-commerce components on its website, then data security should be of concern to you. If you don't clearly understand the difference between http and https protocols, you could be placing your business at considerable risk, and you should definitely read this article and consider your options.

With social media marketing becoming a major marketing source in the last decade for small and large businesses alike, it’s safe to say that most of the people have acknowledged its power. While there are many brands who have failed to achieve greatness with social media marketing, there are countless success stories on the internet where social media marketing single handedly change the entire game. Brands who failed at social media marketing have one thing in common and that is they made a few mistakes along the way and it all went downhill from there. In this article, I’m going to be addressing one of the most common mistakes that new brands do. They spread their efforts thin over multiple social media platforms right from the start. Sometimes they try to market their brand on all the social media platforms when in reality, they only need one or two of them.
