Flipping the curriculum could help us meet the demands of the artificial-intelligence era

Technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotech are redefining what it means to be human—and employable.

Jobs are disappearing as automation replaces the need for people. New occupations are emerging that demand competencies that can transfer across the multiple assignments workers will experience in their lives. The disappearance of global boundaries presents opportunities—and risks—for all workers.

These changes demand a significant, ambitious evolution in how we prepare students for their future in a world that's increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. We need a relevant and modernized education.

Looking into the future Of Distance Education. Is this reality?

Chong Jiaxuan's comment, March 9, 9:58 AM
According to the article, education now focusses more on information and data, followed by understanding and knowledge, and in last place, transfer of expertise. However, in the future, when artificial intelligence becomes common, education needs to focus on transfer of expertise before everything else. I feel that this is rather true. Knowledge of events and subjects might give you a boost in your career, but what is more important is the skills to learn, which is the transfer of expertise. Education needs to shift in order to meet this demand of skills needed in the future.
Julián David Cano's curator insight, March 20, 7:14 PM
It can be evidenced that a lot of aspects of education continue being as traditional as always. Nevertheless, I must highlight that nowadays people are becoming aware about the importance of incorporating technology into the classrooms. Although people are becoming aware, taking advantage of technology to improve the learning process is still a challenge.

This article is really interesting due to the fact that it provides specific examples of skills needed in this century, and that can be achieved through the use of technological devices. Also, this article made me think about my role as a future teacher and the responsibility to start making little changes into the classrooms in order to improve education and contribute positive aspects to it. it is clear that the article makes a direct relationship about technology and education, and how to prepare students to deal with the 21st century skills.

5 Strategies for Team Brainstorming to Use in Your Next Meeting

5 Strategies for Team Brainstorming to Use in Your Next Meeting | Educational technology | Scoop.it

Team brainstorming seems like a good idea--at least, on paper. What usually happens is this: the company is experiencing a tough problem that no single person seems able to solve, so someone decides that more minds means more processing power, and before you know it you're all gathered in the conference room.

One or two people churn out bad idea after bad idea, while everyone else stares at the wall or multitasks. There are no major breakthroughs and most of you are irritated at the waste of time.

Sound familiar? Why is this such a problem?

The 5 Levels of Trust | Jesse Lyn Stoner

The 5 Levels of Trust | Jesse Lyn Stoner | Educational technology | Scoop.it
What is Trust?
As important as trust is, one of the problems is we are not always talking about the same thing when we talk about trust. Trust is a general, all-encompassing word that means many different things.
Huge misunderstandings can occur when we talk about “trust.” If you say you don’t trust someone, do you mean you don’t believe they are honest or do you mean you don’t believe you can depend on them to get the job done on time? If someone says they don’t trust you, what exactly don’t they trust?
There are different levels and intensity of trust. Honesty is a more basic level and has a stronger intensity than dependability.
Understanding the levels of trust and their intensity can help you build a strong foundation of trust and communicate more clearly when others violate your trust.

[PDF] Instructional Design in Higher Education

[PDF] Instructional Design in Higher Education | Educational technology | Scoop.it

Learning — to some it is the sound of chalk on blackboards,  the search through stacks of scribbled notes, and backpacks full of heavy textbooks. For others with a less traditional lens, learning is the summoning of professors with a click of a mouse, assignments no longer living on paper, but in a cloud, and the ‘classroom’ being everywhere. Education has changed considerably in recent years and we don’t expect it to slow down anytime soon.

Because of the advancement of technology, institutions are able to reach more students than ever with the help of quality and accessible online courses. ‘eLearning’, ‘distance education’, ‘blended learning’, ‘online campuses,’ and other related programs have grown more prominent in higher education institutions. According to NCES data, there were 5.5 million students enrolled in distance education courses at degree-granting postsecondary institutions in fall of 2013.

There are many technologies flooding the market that help foster innovative teaching and learning. These tools, such as learning management systems, lecture capture systems, simulation creators, authoring, and video and audio tools, have flooded into the classrooms and lecture halls of higher education. However, the inference that these innovative tools aid learning should not be immediately assumed. With faculties’ full work load, learning and implementing new and often complex tools to improve their online pedagogy isn’t a priority. In fact, as the needs and tools of institutions have evolved, instructional designers have positioned themselves as pivotal players in the design and delivery of learning
experiences. Instructional designers exist to bridge the gap between faculty instruction and student online learning. But who, exactly, are instructional designers? What do they do? Where do they fit in higher education?

6 Keys to Designing Engaging eLearning Content

6 Keys to Designing Engaging eLearning Content | Educational technology | Scoop.it

Many materials writers and instructional designers like to emphasise the importance of engaging content and rightly so too, but what exactly is it that creates engagement with content? I’ve seen lots of content and courses recently that sell themselves as being engaging, but these often fall well short, and as we all know drop out rates on many online courses tends to be extremely high. This would not be happening if the content was genuinely engaging.
