Using Stop-motion Animation with Green Screen on the iPad - May 2014 Blog Post

Using Stop-motion Animation with Green Screen on the iPad - May 2014 Blog Post | Education | Scoop.it

Recently I have been combining two of my favourite apps, I Can Animate and DoInk Green Screen. We have been recording stop motion animation using I Can Animate with small characters and animals onto a green background and then importing these videos into DoInk where they were combined with an image. The green can be removed and the image is they used as a background.

Adding a background to the stop motion creates more focus to this type of work, not only with pupils learning the iPad skills but also linking stop-motion animation with other subjects such as topics on Romans, Wildlife etc. Along with using stop motion animation in Science (see this earlier blog http://sco.lt/8Yh77B) we are finding more and more ways to use it throughout the curriculum.

New data from ongoing Steelcase Education studies shows that classrooms designed for active learning—i.e., where physical space supports a focus on engaging experiences for students and faculty— have a significant effect on student engagement.

¿Por qué se siguen construyendo nuevas escuelas encapsuladas y con las sillas en filas indias. Después se atreven a llamarlas 'Escuelas del Siglo 21'...

It is important for educators to be very strategic concerning classroom design.  I reiterate this point to K-12 teachers often.  Remember, you're developing a learning environment that is inclusive of all students and is designed to engage all students.

Research: How Video Production Affects Student Engagement

TedX recently commissioned a study of nearly 1,000 videos, segmenting them out by by video type and production style, and discovered this among their other findings:

Shorter videos are more engaging. Engagement drops after 6 minutes.Videos with a more personal feeling are more effective than high-fidelity studio recordings.
Videos in which the instructor speaks quickly and with high enthusiasm are more engaging.Khan-style tablet drawings are more engaging than power point slides.

An interesting study from the EdX people on using videos in an online course.
