Injury could mean Xavier Henry gets cut from Lakers

Injury could mean Xavier Henry gets cut from Lakers | When the Phog Clears | Scoop.it
Is the brief Xavier Henry era coming to a close in Los Angeles?

The former Putnam City High School star  underwent successful surgery on his ruptured left Achilles on Tuesday, sidelining him for the season. With the loss of Henry and a string of other season-ending injuries, the Lakers have moved to sign forward Earl Clark.
Clark's signing could be bad news for Henry, says Los Angeles Times Lakers beat writer Mike Bresnahan.
Kylan Whitmer's insight:

Very unfortunate to hear. Henry has special talent but cannot seem to stay healthy.

Mario Chalmers Has Been Miami Heat’s MVP So Far This Season | RantSports | When the Phog Clears | Scoop.it
As controversial as it may seem, Mario Chalmers has been the Miami Heat’s early-season MVP.
Kylan Whitmer's insight:

A happier article than my most recent post concerning Mario Chalmers. As I have posted before, Chalmers has been under scrutiny for his place late last year. He lost his starting spot but is proving to be one of the Heat's top players this season.

Great off-the-court showing by McLemore. He provided a meal for 140 people at a shelter in Lawrence, KS. This act shows how much the Lawrence community impacted him at his time here at KU.

Joel Embiid Celebrates 76ers First Win With Rihanna Photoshops | When the Phog Clears | Scoop.it
Joel Embiid has yet to play a single minute of NBA basketball, but he’s already a legend on Twitter and has solidified his legacy on social media.  It hasn’t even been a half year since Joel Embiid was drafted into the NBA but already the man is a living legend. He was a quiet star at […]

Booker, Colorado beat San Francisco 72-55

Booker, Colorado beat San Francisco 72-55 | When the Phog Clears | Scoop.it
Booker scored 16 of his 21 points in the second half to help Colorado break open a close game, and the Buffaloes pulled away to beat San Francisco 72-55 Wednesday night. Booker established a season high in points on 8 of 12 shooting, converting all six of his field goals in the second half, including four of his five total 3-pointers. Corey Hilliard hit a running jumper to temporarily stall Colorado's momentum but the Buffaloes scored eight of the next 10 points to stretch their lead to 50-40 with 12:11 left to play. The Dons managed to get within six before Scott hit a pair of free throws Booker hit another 3-pointer to help the Buffaloes re-establish a double digit advantage. Colorado, down by as many as 10 points earlier, pulled to 34-32 at halftime when Dustin Thomas rebounded a teammate's missed free throw and laid it in. Xavier Johnson was held out of the game after missing practice this week because of a hamstring injury suffered in Sunday's win over Lipscomb. ...
Kylan Whitmer's insight:

This article isn't overly interesting, however it is interesting that Colorado and San Francisco played each other. The teams playing each other matched up 2 former Jayhawks as head coaches. Tad Boyle defeated Rex Walter's Don squad. A game like this really shows how large the KU coaching tree is. So many coaches have connections to KU whether it be a former player or a former coach.

Maryland's freshman class earns high marks early in season

Maryland's freshman class earns high marks early in season | When the Phog Clears | Scoop.it
Given what transpired over Mark Turgeon 's first three seasons at Maryland , there was certainly pressure on this year's freshman class to quickly produce better results and quiet an increasingly frustrated fan base.
Kylan Whitmer's insight:

Mark Turgeon starting the recruiting trail off hot as he puts Maryland near the top when its comes to ranking incoming freshman classes for next year. I look for Turgeon to make Maryland one of the best in the Big Ten within the next few years.

Suns practice notes: Markieff Morris evolving as a passer

Suns practice notes: Markieff Morris evolving as a passer | When the Phog Clears | Scoop.it
PHOENIX — Stereotyping is a very easy thing to do on a basketball court; the big guys are usually the strong rebounders and poor passers, while it’s vice versa for the smaller guys. Dishing out assists is typically a small man thing. Suns power forward Markieff Morris has bucked the stereotype of late, dishing out […]
Kylan Whitmer's insight:

Markieff is already having himself a career season and if he can add passing to his skill set, he is going to be a force to reckon with in the NBA.

Joel Embiid clears latest hurdle in rehab from broken foot

Joel Embiid clears latest hurdle in rehab from broken foot | When the Phog Clears | Scoop.it
Joel Embiid cleared a hurdle in his rehab by being cleared to do shooting drills while putting weight on his surgically-repaired right foot.
Kylan Whitmer's insight:

Great news for not only Jayhawk fans, but Philidelphia and NBA fans in general. Embiid was the third pick in last years draft despite being injured. He easily could have been the first over former teammate Andrew Wiggins had he been healthy. Even if you aren't a fan of a team in which Embiid has been apart of, it would be a shame if we couldn't watch him play due to his injuries. Hopefully he can get back into form and help his team which is the worst in the league so far this season.

Miami Heat Point Guard Mario Chalmers Contests Child-Support

Kylan Whitmer's insight:

Good news for the personal life of a former Jayhawk great. It's interesting to see stories such as this that show readers that NBA players and celebrities encounter the same real-world problems that normal people do. In this case, its good to see that Chalmers was able to reverse the decision to raise his child support to $10,000 per month. I don't care how fortunate a person is, that is a ridiculous amount of money to pay on a monthly basis. I don't know why the decision was made in the first place, because no child needs $10,000 worth of resources to stay alive each month.
