How nurturing chickens is helping elderly communities combat loneliness and associated mental health problems.
Sara Conrad's insight:

Chickens? Why always chickens?

Seriously though, this is a great idea. It's so easy to isolate yourself and not feel like part of a community when you get older and these people have so much to add. This combined with the mixing of kindergarten's/mixed families all together, give me hope.

How should I spend my precious time on social media?

How should I spend my precious time on social media? | Things that interest me - a little bit of a lot | Scoop.it
When I speak to clients who are new to the social media world, the one word I keep hearing is that they are overwhelmed.  They also say they don't "get" Twitter, they don't want to friend people on Facebook, why would people on Instagram care what food ...
Sara Conrad's insight:

I like Ann Tran, I believe I read her first on Entrepreneur. Sharing this because as a social media person, I need to know about OO, Ozone, WeChat and Tencent Weibo. I know about tsu. One of the first things I do is online presence analysis. Who is your target audience? Who is already engaged and where are they? Are they on Facebook? Maybe if they are a certain age. Are they on SnapChat? Instagram?

See you over at G+. google.com/+SaraConradBoulder

Ann's also written another great post that I've often said myself.

No One Said Building A Company Was Easy: Overcoming The Psychology Of The Tech Entrepreneur

No One Said Building A Company Was Easy: Overcoming The Psychology Of The Tech Entrepreneur | Things that interest me - a little bit of a lot | Scoop.it
“It’s hard. And just when you think it can’t get any worse, it does. There’ll be times when it just keeps getting worse and worse and worse. Meanwhile, everyone else around you is getting better and happier and richer. You’ll feel like the only one who hasn’t figured it out yet. You’re sinking, your life sucks, and your business isn’t going anywhere.
Sara Conrad's insight:

and it continues... exactly what I've been feeling and thinking. Exactly.

"Oh yeah, and you’re not getting any younger, either. And just when you think about finally throwing in the towel, and saying ‘f*** all this,’ that, right there, is the test that all founders are eventually faced with: when things get too hard, you decide to stay, or you decide to quit. My advice is this: before you decide, look at all those great, successful businesses that inspired you to start your own. They stayed.”

Staying.

30 Terrible Pieces of Social Media Advice You Should Ignore

30 Terrible Pieces of Social Media Advice You Should Ignore | Things that interest me - a little bit of a lot | Scoop.it
Send an auto DM to all your new followers.
Whether you want to thank them, tell them to visit your website, or anything else, please please please don’t send an auto direct message (DM) to every new follower you get. Auto DMs are incredibly impersonal and perceived as spam by most. Sending auto DMs not only seems inconsiderate, but it also makes you look like a complete newbie who doesn’t understand social media etiquette.
Sara Conrad's insight:

Please do not send me an automatic DM after following. Especially one that asks me if I use social media. Duh... if you read my profile before you sent that stupid auto-DM, you'd know.

Great tips in this post - the auto DM one is just one of many good ones. I am also particularly fond of the one about letting your interns do your marketing.

Hire a pro.

MAPS is doing great research - using MDMA in PTSD for Veterans and others.

Very happy to announce, ICYMI, that MAPS was one of the winners of $82,765.95 from Reddit, voted on by you and me!

Top 30 Women In Social Media Who Are Rocking It #LikeAGirl | Things that interest me - a little bit of a lot | Scoop.it
Great blog post at Kim Garst - Social Media for Small Business Owners :

I don't know about you but I LOVE lists! Lists of the best social media tools, lists of the best apps to use and lists of the best peopl[..]
Sara Conrad's insight:

And at least three of them are doing their "funny facial expressions" in their profile photos, one of them has 'pretending to be an old lady' as her schtick, and all of them are successful. Super nice that Kim Garst added an "up and coming' section.

Lists... yeh.. depends on who makes them who gets on them. I know who will not ever make my #WomenofWeed list and I know that there are social media companies that will turn their nose up at any mention of #Marijuana or #Cannabis. Their loss, my gain!!!!
