SeaWorld Dolphin Bites Girl, Prompts PETA Probe Request

SeaWorld Dolphin Bites Girl, Prompts PETA Probe Request | What's the deal? | Scoop.it
Ashley Olvera's insight:

The reason I chose this article is because it is relevant to the topic I proposed for our first essay. On my essay I wrote about Orca whales, also known as killer whales, being captive at the marine life based theme park called SEA WORLD and how it causes the killer whales lash out violently. Similarly this dolphin located in Sea World has bitten a girl and there is a lot of controversy as to whether it was acting out because it was frustrated and angry because lives its life in  captivity with a lot of other dolphins as well.

‘Valentine Road’ on HBO Follows a Student’s Killing

‘Valentine Road’ on HBO Follows a Student’s Killing | What's the deal? | Scoop.it
The documentary “Valentine Road,” on HBO, is based on a 2008 shooting in which a junior-high-school student shot and killed a fellow eighth grader.
Ashley Olvera's insight:

Although this is an article that was published in October, 2013, speaking on the documentary of a student's killing, I feel that since the documentary was shown on campus, that is a current event. The screening was shown on Tuesday 11, 2014 on campus and included the film producer and a vigil in this student's memory. I live in Oxnard and I know of this occurring in 2008, but it was until last night that I watched the documentary at home, that I really knew about the story in DEPTH. I appreciate this article because unlike many, it actually mentions how this documentary shared the sides to the stories that many did not know of, like Brandon (the killer) and his side. This is an unbiased film and lets viewers lean towards the side that they feel. Also, I am sharing the background of this page because it will encourage others to watch the documentary and have a better understanding of what happens on other parts of unrecognized places.

Toilet of the future? You might want to sit down for this  - NBC News | What's the deal? | Scoop.it
Could this be the toilet of the future?Despite its relatively staid presence in industrialized regions like the United States and Western Europe, the toilet ...
Ashley Olvera's insight:

This is not the ordinary news that we hear while sitting on our couches while watching it on TV! It is something different to be heard about; therefore, it sparks curiosity. What is this thing? It is an obviously much more advanced version of our generic toilet, but why are we so intrigued? Maybe it is because we have never sat on a toilet close to looking like this, or even just a plain seat looking like this. This is technologically advanced and also health wise it is advanced. Yes, health plays a role in this outcome of modifying this toilet. This article is a reliable source because it states the names of those who incorporated ideas and produced this product. Providing this info, it makes it easier to track the other legitimate work they have took part in.

California Highway Patrol officer cuffs firefighter for refusing to move engine

California Highway Patrol officer cuffs firefighter for refusing to move engine | What's the deal? | Scoop.it
A Southern California firefighter ended up in handcuffs this week after he disagreed with a highway patrol officer on where to park a fire engine.
Ashley Olvera's insight:

Just goes to prove that even one with authority can be punished if disobeying the law. When we receive a ticket or get arrested by an officer, majority of us tend to think "why could they run a red light or do whatever they want and get away with it? Just because they are of higher authority?". This is a big deal to announce to the public because now they can be sure that the system IS fair.
