Map the Museum: An Experiment in Crowdsourcing

Map the Museum: An Experiment in Crowdsourcing | Museos y Web | Scoop.it

Map the Museum is an open data project, developed by digital agency Caper and Brighton & Hove’s Royal Pavilion and Museums, to understand more about the museum’scollections.

The website asks people to place objects from the museum’s collections on a local map and aims to demonstrate the relationship between the city and the museum, while also creating new data that can become a part of each object’s permanent catalogue record.

Quick note: Curating art and culture in the digital age | The Museum of the Future

Quick note: Curating art and culture in the digital age | The Museum of the Future | Museos y Web | Scoop.it

"One of the primary trends for museums I’ve been researching and discussing lately is their potential renewed role as curators of information in the digital age. The amount of online information approximately doubles every two years and when the 4+ billion people without internet access will start contributing, it will become ever harder to find the stuff that is worth your while online."

What an app SHOULD NOT do: Be a guide.• Be too engaging• Provide too much text• Play lengthy audio• Play length video• Require too much interaction• Require typing

What an app SHOULD do:Be a host!• Engage you in your environment• Provide prompts for discussion• Engage you with your group• Engage you with other visitors(comfortably, safely, optionally)• Provide insights into the community• Reflect back what’s important to you• Make unexpected connections

Museum of Old and New Art Rethinks the Museum Experience | Canadian Heritage Information Network | Museos y Web | Scoop.it

When the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Australia opened its doors in 2011, it set out to reinvent the traditional museum experience. The private institution was in a unique position, able to integrate technology from the ground-up. The end result is what the MONA calls the ”O Tour”, which infuses digital content directly into its exhibits through a fleet of 1,300 iPods.
