Big (Bad) Changes to Facebook and YouTube, Yet Very Little Protest

Big (Bad) Changes to Facebook and YouTube, Yet Very Little Protest | Web Series Marketing | Scoop.it

There have been some major changes to YouTube and Facebook lately that are making it harder for the little guys to reach their audience. For example, if you want the people who like your Facebook page to see your posts, you'll now have to pay. It's as if Mark Zuckerberg erected a tollboth on all but one lane of the 405, then said that "paying the toll is important" if you want to get to work on time. Why aren't people up in arms about this?

YouTube Networks Get Their First Tabloid Story & It's Getting Ugly - Ray William Johnson vs. Maker Studios

YouTube Networks Get Their First Tabloid Story & It's Getting Ugly - Ray William Johnson vs. Maker Studios | Web Series Marketing | Scoop.it
Things got interesting yesterday when Johnson went to our friends at Newmediarockstars to write an article and aired out all the dirty laundry. And it was here that YouTube networks get their first big tabloid story.

Jennifer Read Pleman's insight:

I think there are two things to learn from this whole debacle:

1. Nothing in life is free. If you sign with a YouTube network you'll get help, but you'll also have to pay a price for that help. A big price.

2. Your audience is everything. If you build a relationship with them, they'll continue to support you no matter what happens behind the scenes.

The Cost of a Webseries « Rocket Jump

The Cost of a Webseries « Rocket Jump | Web Series Marketing | Scoop.it
We set our Kickstarter goal at $75,000 and blew our goal out of the water by raising $273,725. Of that $273,725, $222,498.92 went into the production of VGHS (While Kickstarter and Amazon take 5-10%, we found that an additional 10% was not accounted for due to declined credit cards). In the next couple of weeks we plan on breaking down all the challenges and lessons we learned from running and successfully fulfilling a large-scale Kickstarter project.

All said and done, VGHS Season One cost $636,010.71.
Jennifer Read Pleman's insight:

I applaud Freddie Wong. We all know how important it is for web series producers to connect with their audience, and I think this is a perfect example of how a producer can build on that connection. They gave him money (through kickstarter) and in a fun, visual way he told them how he spent it.

Of course, now they're going to want to know how much money he made in the end. I hope he shares that, too.
