Game changers

Game changers | Web for now and future | Scoop.it

"Game Changers: Education and Information Technologies" is a collection of chapters and case studies contributed by college and university presidents, provosts, faculty, and other stakeholders.

Education changes lives and societies, but can we sustain the current model? New models and new technologies allow us to rethink many of the premises of education—location and time, credits and credentials, knowledge creation and sharing.

Read it and share your opinion about this book.

Anthony F. Camilleri et al. - State of the Art Review of Quality Issues related to Open Educational Resources (OER)

Robert Schuwer's curator insight, May 24, 2014 2:01 AM

From the Executive Summary:

"This report provides an overview of definitions of quality for OER, suggests a conceptual mapping and reviews the major issues related to the quality for OER. It also identifies recommendations for policymakers at European and Member State level on quality assurance and OER with a view to supporting the further development and use of OER in Europe. The outcomes of the report can be outlined as follows:

- First, when reviewing a set of definitions of OER we find that they all:
 cover both use and reuse, repurposing, and modification of resources,
- include free use of these resources for educational purposes by teachers and learners,
- encompass all types of digital media.

Evidence of the impact of iTEC on learning and teaching

A detailed meta-analysis of the evaluation data over the first three cycles of iTEC pilots shows that the process has had a positive impact on students’ knowledge, skills and understanding – in particular on their 21st century skills, motivation, engagement,  attitudes, and learning practices. iTEC has also had a beneficial effect on teachers, impacting positively on their technology-supported pedagogy, digital competence, and their motivation and attitudes.

Where To Find Good Alternative Sources for Content Curation

Where To Find Good Alternative Sources for Content Curation | Web for now and future | Scoop.it

Robin Good: If you are looking for ways to expand your horizon of content sources that you can use to find valuable content for your curated news channel, Pawan Deshpande, founder and CEO of Curata, has done an excellent job of listing and describing the many alternatives available to you.

While many beginner curators rely on their set of RSS feeds and on simple web searches to find new and interesting stuff on their topic of interest, there are a dozen more content source types that can be tapped to find relevant stuff. This article helps you start learning where to look to find them.

Useful. Resourceful. 8/10

The end of fame (as we know it)

I gave this talk at TechWeek L.A. (where else on such a topic?) last week as I felt the new social media evolutions, particularly the rise of the interest graph, are making things move quickly on that subject.

Why do we remember famous people in history? How? How about today's celebrities? And how are the Internet and the Social Web changing that now?

A look at the fame creation process tells us it is indissociable from the media creation process, which has been deeply impacted by new information technology. The Andy Warhol prediction is probably no longer valid and we need to rethink fame in the context of a distributed Internet network which more and more becomes topic-centric and no longer people-centric.

This article is interesting and should be top of mind for any training organisation that wants to employ social media in the delivery of it's training programs.

I have been working with the use of technology in the delivery and management of education and training programs since the late 80's and am constantly amazed by my 7 year old grandson as he goes about do things like logging onto the Leggo website to access a plan so as he can build a new "something" in Leggo etc.
