Gwyneth Letherbarrow's curator insight, July 12, 2013 1:04 PM

I'm not all together sure how these stats are arrived at, and a similar visual for Facebook that I came across recently proved to be irrelevant (yes I tested it). As with anything else, I guess it depends upon the type of business you're into.

Brian Hendricks's curator insight, July 16, 2013 2:45 PM

I have found that using ALL social media avenues, as well as blogging, can help with attracting more followers, or "fans", which will eventually lead to potential customers.  Try it and see for yourself.  Remember, be patient, and persistent.   Contact me for more info!

How to Win with Social Media and Small Businesses

How to Win with Social Media and Small Businesses | Web Development Worldwide | Scoop.it
I've been a social media strategist for just over six months, and I've come to one conclusion.

The Fish Firm's curator insight, July 7, 2013 4:32 PM

Social Media Is Just A Tool...and it will look very different in just a few years... That's why snatching up as many Fans or Followers as possible isn't so important b/c it won't matter when the platform decides to go IPO (and it will).

The key is to leverage business metrics to impact customer satisfaction as an internal agent of change.

We need to focus on fulfilling promises to customers and treating them like valuable assets. When we win there, everything else will fall into place whether its Facebook or Twitter or something new.

The Great Social Customer Service Race: Top Brands Compete in a Social Response Test

The Great Social Customer Service Race: Top Brands Compete in a Social Response Test | Web Development Worldwide | Scoop.it

Few topics have dominated customer service strategy conversations like social media.

This trend presents a formidable challenge for companies that receive thousands–sometimes hundreds of thousands–of tweets per day. It’s impossible to expect them to respond to everything.

But what do they respond to, how quickly, and how well?

This is a fantastic insight into the use of social media in customer service. Here you will see the reaction of 14 different brands to tweets sent by 4 individuals in a systematic way of testing their ability to win the social customer service race!

Such an interesting read!

Martin (Marty) Smith's curator insight, February 16, 2013 9:03 AM

I thought this study was so devastatingly important I posted Atlanticbt.com's first guest blog post: http://www.atlanticbt.com/blog/social-service-how-social-media-is-changing-customer-service/ .

The study is fascinating and devastating because it speaks to how poorly aligned even major brands are to social media marketing. Customers are having conversations to no response.

"No response" is doubly devastating because it says, "We aren't listening and we don't care." Relationships aren't accidents they are decisions. Make the right decision and make sure your company, brand or product listens more than you talk on social media.

Gonçalo Hall's curator insight, February 26, 2013 4:28 AM

Um excelente artigo que demonstra que na maioria dos casos, as expetativas de resposta de uma marca nas redes sociais a pedidos de apoio técnico é ainda muito reduzida. Muito trabalho tem ainda de ser feito..

A Higher View of Content: Five Common Words to Avoid | Business 2 Community

A Higher View of Content: Five Common Words to Avoid | Business 2 Community | Web Development Worldwide | Scoop.it

It’s safe to say most people don’t spend a great deal of time planning their next sentence, unless you’re a super nerd like me and have a serious obsession with lexis and language. (True story: My friend and I are currently teaching ourselves to speak Middle English – for no other reason than for sheer delight.)

Think of Words as a Choice

We have tens of thousands of words to choose from, so why would we overuse any of them? I’ve had the pleasure of working with all types of writers – the young, the veteran, the newly published, the inexperienced, and the journalist. I’ve spent time as a writing coach, an English teacher, and an editor. Naturally, I began to notice patterns in writers’ errors and stylistic blunders.

I’ve compiled an ever-growing list of ineffective words that should be avoided like a camera on a bad hair day. Today, I’ll reveal the most common five. Keep in mind, I’m not advocating for the death of the following words. Every word has its place, but the following five are vague, redundant, and overused....

What Social Media Sites Should My Business Be On?

What Social Media Sites Should My Business Be On? | Web Development Worldwide | Scoop.it

We get this question pretty frequently here at Quintain Marketing. We’ve been advising clients on their social media marketing since early 2009 and I can’t tell you how many times this has been the focus of client meetings. With so many different platforms to consider – and more popping up all the time – I can see why business owners want to know where they should devote their online marketing efforts.

You Can’t Understand A Conversation That You Aren’t A Part Of... | Web Development Worldwide | Scoop.it

Smart companies are the ones that are connecting with their customers online. By doing so, they are getting a better understanding of their customers as well as the online conversation around their brand. But, In most cases, there’s an alarming disconnect between who the brand thinks its customers are, and vice-versa. Usually, this disconnect is because the brand and customer have no real interaction with each other.

The Fish Firm's comment, February 12, 2013 6:52 PM
@TimOKeefe Yes it is! I usually start out w/ clients with the analogy that Social Media should be treated re communication such as their phone or email while that conversation is public knowledge such as a bill board or magazine ad. It is scary for some but as you stated it is vital to know what consumers are saying!

This type of communication takes a long time for more established business owners to adjust too and adopt! It's so counter intuitive to what they have ever done. The Gen X & Y business owners totally get it - yet you'll be hard pressed to find them in the same business model as this older generation. That's why Erik Qualman said "The ROI of Social Media is that you'll still be in business in five years."
