How Your Brand Can Strengthen Its Relationship With Future Generations

How Your Brand Can Strengthen Its Relationship With Future Generations | wealth business & social media | Scoop.it

Brands that listen to their customers and form a natural dialogue will be the most successful in an agile world.

Just as the Gen X and baby-boom generations have had their own unique relationship to brands, this dynamic will continue to evolve over time.

Having worked to connect brands with their audiences across many different generations, I've seen the importance of understanding how each unique demographic envisions the ideal brand-consumer relationship. Each generation has approached this connection in a slightly different way, and successful brands are the ones that understand the shifting dynamics and how to maintain their relevance.

This article will take a look at a few aspects of branding as it relates to the generations which will shape our economy and society over the decades to come.

How to Succeed as an Introverted Leader, According to Science: Just Believe in Yourself

How to Succeed as an Introverted Leader, According to Science: Just Believe in Yourself | wealth business & social media | Scoop.it

From a wealth of real-world examples such as Warren Buffett and Bill Gates to a ton of science and expert opinion, there's no shortage of evidence that introverts can make great leaders.

But, of course, quieter types can only demonstrate this fact if they decide to step up to the plate and lead. And according to new research, many introverts may be shying away from leadership positions in which they'd actually excel, because of misplaced fears about their potential and capabilities.

Forming Stronger Bonds with People at Work

Forming Stronger Bonds with People at Work | wealth business & social media | Scoop.it

Connecting with others is at the heart of human nature. Recent research emphasizes that the power of connections can help us be creative, resilient, even live longer. But we can easily overlook the importance of these bonds. As popular writer and researcher Adam Grant has noted, the pressure of tight deadlines and the pace of technology mean that fewer Americans are finding friendship in the workplace. In fact, many of us are further disconnecting from the people we work with: we’re more stressed out than ever, and half of us regularly experience incivility in our jobs.

How can we create possibilities for connection in what is sometimes a hostile atmosphere? We believe there needs to be more compassion.

And not that this is just the marketing tech person so that on top of these come other skills like creativity, strategic thinking, etc...

One of the obvious consequence is that for small teams, it's hard to assemble all these skills in a small group of individuals - let alone a single person.

Important developments: blockchain’s effect on mobile payments, trade finance, and augmented and virtual reality.

The more surprising themes and developments: some countries see blockchain technology as a way to cut down on voting fraud, and others, like Australia, are starting to incorporate blockchain into peer-to-peer solar power exchanges.

4 Self-Improvement Myths That May Be Holding You Back

4 Self-Improvement Myths That May Be Holding You Back | wealth business & social media | Scoop.it

Advice on how to improve one’s self is everywhere.  It accounts for about 2.5% of all book sales in the United States. Add in speeches, training programs, TV programs, online-products, coaches, yoga, and the like, self-help is a $10 billion industry per year, and that’s just in the U.S.

However, research shows that much of the advice extolled may be misleading or even wrong. Several myths about performance persist, despite research and practices that show they are half-truths at best. That might explain why the most likely purchasers of self-improvement books have bought another within the previous 18 months.  The first myth-riddled book didn’t work, so they bought another, and maybe another soon after.

A recent report in the Journal of Management noted that of nearly 25,000 academic articles on performance, only a fraction include what psychologists call within person variance, which describes ranges, such as that between individuals’ top, average and worst performances. Advice too often mistakenly assumes performance can be compared across people, using the same gauge. That’s absurd.

Our observation of hundreds of performance seekers largely confirms the report and has led to delineating a series of myths that hold people back when trying to improve. These assertions are based on a diverse set of fields, including psychology, sports, arts, and leadership. We hope that by dispelling these myths, explaining the reality and offering some sound advice instead, we can help move people toward more effective personal development.

Since Your Brain Constantly Compares You With Everyone Else, Try This | Fast Company

Since Your Brain Constantly Compares You With Everyone Else, Try This | Fast Company | wealth business & social media | Scoop.it

Your brain is a comparison engine. In every new situation, it automatically rifles through your memory of every other situation you’ve encountered in the past. It swiftly finds one or a few that are similar to the current scenario, then uses that information to figure out what to do next. Most of the time, you do this without you ever realizing it.

Sometimes this cognitive reflex works to your advantage, and sometimes it doesn’t. But since it’s always happening anyway, you might as well make it work for you more often than against you–at least as best you can. Here’s how.

Social comparisons sometimes make us feel better and sometimes don’t. Here’s how to use that tendency to actually get better.

CCM Consultancy's curator insight, October 16, 2017 1:48 AM

When you compare yourself to someone better than you on a dimension, that’s called an “upward social comparison”; when you compare yourself to someone you consider worse off on a given dimension, it’s “a downward social comparison.” So while these comparisons can be useful (in both directions) for figuring out where you stand, they can make you miserable, too. If you’re always making upward social comparisons and find yourself lacking something, you may start feeling bad about how you measure up.

The Secret to Being Approachable Is Almost Too Obvious (You’ve Probably Already Done it Today)

The Secret to Being Approachable Is Almost Too Obvious (You’ve Probably Already Done it Today) | wealth business & social media | Scoop.it

You know those people with a seemingly magnetic force that attracts all types of people? Whether they’re engaging you in a light and friendly chat or a meaningful conversation, they just seem to have a presence you wish you had. It’s easy to sum it all up and say that some people just have it, and others just don’t, but that’s an unproductive way of thinking about it. There’s absolutely no reason why you can’t also be the type of person who charms the pants off of everybody.

If you consider yourself to be socially awkward, or just chronically shy , you may feel like it takes a lot of effort to have engaging interactions with others. For me, I know if the person I’m talking to seems uncomfortable, I start to think that I’ve offended or bored him. Is he thinking about his to-do list right now? Am I that lame? Without some type of visible reassurance telling me the person I’m speaking with is enjoying the conversation, I struggle to be present and am bound to forget about the individual.

The Current State of Voiceover: Two Approaches Radio/Broadcast and Acting | Huffington Post

The Current State of Voiceover: Two Approaches Radio/Broadcast and Acting | Huffington Post | wealth business & social media | Scoop.it
We think veteran casting director, producer, and author, Kate McClanaghan, offers some interesting insights in this article. While we don't disagree with her primary contention that there are two differing paths people seem to take with regards to embarking on a voiceover career—"the broadcast/radio approach and the acting approach"—we think that she really gets to the heart of it with her on-target observation: "I’ve worked with relatively inexperienced talent who were infinitely more professional than some of those I’ve had in the booth with 20 or more years of “mic experience.” It’s all relative. You’re either a professional or you’re not."

We absolutely agree with this and will go so far as to state that taking a professional approach is most important; more than "natural talent." Anyone can plug a mic into his or her computer and call him- or herself a "voice actor" or "voice artist," but what really distinguishes voice actors from one another is their degree of professionalism and how seriously they take their craft. Those who study, develop a critical ear, seek out professional training, commit to developing and honing their skills, and are willing to do the work—even the parts that aren't necessarily fun or immediately lucrative—are the ones who have the greatest chance of succeeding in this business and building sustainable careers.
