I'm still trying to wrap my mind around where this is going but this article came very close to providing me with an understandable explanation of what IoT is all about. I love the visual that can be enlarged and studied and the article asks a very important question: if Facebook & Twitter are the giants of Web 2.0, who/what will emerge as the "big 2" in IoT?

Because eventually the IoT is going to influence decisions your IT team will need to make, is already influencing some decisions that some corporations are making which will, in turn, influence decisions made in programs and IT departments in universities which will, in turn, influence decisions made in curricula and IT departments in K-12 schools. I do not think this is a passing fad.  I am very interested in where this goes and what innovation this drives from artificial intelligence and Big Data.  I believe it is the perfect marriage as AI is great for large unstructured data with varying sources but will be 5-10 years before it is truly useful and mature.
