Fifteen-year-old Virginia horsewoman Hanna Powers has been named Youth Ambassador of the 2012 Washington International Horse Show.


Powers, of Potomac Falls, is a sophomore at The Madeira School in McLean, Virginia, and competes on the varsity Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) team. She has attended WIHS for many years with her friends and family. Powers brings a wealth of knowledge of equestrian sport to her new role.

Proving equitation is one of its strong points, Lionshare Farm, owned and operated by Olympic silver medalist Peter Leone and his wife, Marcella, coached Elizabeth Benson and Lionshare Farm’s Cadillac Z to a first place in the Washington International Horse Show jumper phase and a sixth in the hunter phase at Garden State Horse Show.

McLain Ward announced Monday that he is retiring his two-time Olympic mount Sapphire, who helped him bring home two Gold Medals for the U.S. in 2004 and 2008. The Belgian Warmblood mare is 17 this year ... Sapphire is a two-time winner of the $100,000 President's Cup Grand Prix ('08, '10), the Washington International's most prestigious event.

Charlotte Jacobs kicked off her spring show season with big wins during the Saratoga Springs Horse Shows and donated $17,000 in prize money to Danny and Ron’s Rescue. During the WIHS Equitation and the USEF Hunter Seat Medal, Jacobs took home blue ribbons riding Greer Hindle’s Freedom and winning the prestigious Governor’s Cup.

Show World | Cassidy Zimmerman and Portafina Take Top Honors In NAL/WIHS Children’s Hunter Classic At Kentucky Spring Horse Show | Washington International Horse Show | Scoop.it

The NAL/WIHS Children’s Classic welcomed the final day of the Kentucky Spring Horse show today. Although the riders were greeted with sheets of rain throughout the duration of the morning and afternoon, this did not lessen the competition as horse and rider combinations vied for the top honors in their respective divisions .
