Marty, I love to write and therefore blog. This doesn't always come easy. This post was actually quite easy to write - nothing technical - the research had already been done just out of curiosity and interest the thoughts just flowed. I hope your sale and goals are reaching further everyday. Thank you for the inspiration to intertwine my social media profession with a topic of human interest. Because of your story, I will always seek to find human interest stories relating to my social media business. Hmmm...a new blog may be due. This has sparked a thought.

Carla, thanks and glad to have you on our journey to cure cancer. Stories are so important to Internet marketing now. Stories are everything. Since the web starts FLAT our words and stories provide the fabric we weave with customers and friends. As Karen Dietz so accurately says, "He who tells the best story, WINS". Marty

With the approaching New Year, many people will decide it’s time for a new start.

5 Key Points to Make Your Resume Stunning in 2018

Carla Deter's insight:
1. VISUAL PRESENTATION AND ORGANIZATION We’ve all been told that looks don’t matter as much as substance. But, in the case of your resume, this just isn’t true. Often, when I review resumes I find the design to be visually uneven. The appearance may not be polished, and it doesn’t say ‘high potential.’ Your resume is your marketing tool. It’s the first impression a potential employer has of you. Use bullets to emphasize (but not too many as it’s difficult to zero in on the most important information). The size and type of bullet are also important. Too large is not visually appealing and a distraction. Make sure the additional pages have contact information on them. If your resume gets printed and a page is separated, the hiring manager can then still be able to identify you.

Brevity is important of course but if some phrase or statement is too short to convey something new or interesting about you – it should be removed or rewritten.

Having a ‘Reference Available’ section is not necessary. Employers typically assume you’ll have this on hand during interviews.

2. THE WRITING OF THE RESUME
A career summary should be present. Get off on the right foot by giving the ‘whole picture’ of who you are as a professional. This is a key component to compel the hiring manager to keep reading.

Clearly define yourself as a professional from the start before delving deeper into your work experiences.

The wording of your resume can either convey you as a ‘doer’, or an ‘achiever.’ When job descriptions read as task-based opposed to results-based – it only tells what you did and not what you achieved. Employers want to see achievement. Think quantitative results when available ($,%, Increased….Decreased).

Use of language can make all the difference too! For example:
1) Passive Language/Doing: Negotiated contract with vendors. 2) Action Language/Achieving: Decreased administrative costs by 30% by negotiating pricing and fees with vendors.

12 Simple Ways To Stay Engaged On LinkedIn

12 Simple Ways To Stay Engaged On LinkedIn | Washington, DC | Scoop.it
Carla Deter's insight:
Note: Mix it up daily!Today, I will like/comment to five (5) of my connections postsToday, I will share a few posts that I particular like and find of great valueToday, I will look at ‘who you may know’ (LinkedIn suggestions) and request connectionsToday, I will enter a couple of my groups and add my insight to a question or articleToday, I will go to my connections tab and wish someone a happy birthday or a congrats on a new positionToday, I will update my status with another’s great content found on LinkedIn or another platformToday, I will respond to a couple messages (that are not deemed spam) with a thank you or no thank youToday, I will share a helpful article with your favorite group in LinkedInToday, I will purposely seek to give honest, constructive feedback to an opinion I may not necessarily agree withToday, I will use the endorsements feature to increase my visibility by endorsing othersToday, I will give a recommendation to another I have worked with or who has positively influenced me professionallyToday, I will write an article that does not promote myself – but offers insight as to who I am as a person personally and professionally. Be human!

Event promotions across LinkedIn is not so difficult. Yes, it takes time to work a plan but it's worth it in the end - not only for attendee registrations but also ROI.

If you have an event coming up and need to spread the word to targeted members of LinkedIn (300+million) let me know. Where else do you have a platform of (I'll say it again) 300 plus million professionals ready to learn about your industry event.

LinkedIn Profile Service: Professional LinkedIn Profile Writers

LinkedIn Profile Service: Professional LinkedIn Profile Writers | Washington, DC | Scoop.it
LinkedIn Profile Service writers create professional personal profiles and company pages noticed by job recruiters. Examples of best LinkedIn profiles.
Carla Deter's insight:

For some time I've been a frequent user of ‪#‎linkedin‬. During this time I've taken a great fondness (no, seriously love) for the platform. Every day is new learning of all the hidden strategies that are available. The layers of search and filter ability goes deep and being certain your profile will be found is key! A well developed LinkedIn profile can do many things: solidify the branding of YOU, bring buyers to you and your products/service, expose a company in a well formatted, key word rich manner that gets your product or service to the top of search results. People are using the search abilities every second of every day and having your profile work for you is the super important part.
I love developing individual and company profiles from a multitude of industries. The most rewarding experience is when someone has decided on a job change and they realize their online LinkedIn presence is now very important! The preparation of the profile along with a well written resume compliments and is imperative to job hunters moreso now than ever.
