Chapter 8

 Political Factors plus neo-Nazi?

So far, 10 European political leaders out of 17 have been ousted out of office like a falling dominos in a little more than a year.

"The issue that has angered voters other than unemployment is austerity. We know from personal finances that when we overspend, we must cut back, pay our debts and rebuild our savings. That’s the prudent thing to do and that’s what the austerity school preaches. But what happens if the financial hole is so deep that there is no way to climb out by reasonable cutting back and saving? That’s when you declare bankruptcy and your creditors share the pain. The laws of capitalism decree that if you don’t assess risk correctly, you lose money. The conclusion is that austerity has to come with a mechanism for default, which is not the case in Europe..."

"...History has shown over and over again that when there are deep economic problems, the monsters that lurk in dark, dank corners come out brazenly into daylight looking for victims or scapegoats. It wasn’t so long ago when this is precisely what happened in Europe. This week in Greece a Neo Nazi party took 21 out of 300 seats and 7% of the popular vote – the first neo-Nazi party to enter a European assembly since the Second World War. This is enough to give us shivers. The center seems to be falling apart and the extremes of left and right are gaining power...."

National Deficit

“In our analysis, to provide the greatest boost to the economy now would be to cut taxes or increase spending in the immediate term, then in longer term cut spending or increase taxes,” Elmendorf (CBO director). Wise words. In the earlier days of the Super Committee, with the fallout over the in ability for congress to reconsile the debt ceiling still looming like a blck cloud over Washington, it seemed that many notions were offered and many, including myself, felt that there was hope for this Super Committee to come to a super, bipartisan agreement. THough this was never to happen, at least not as far as the Super Committee was concerned, the early days of the Committee brought forth ideas, wether truly good for America or not, that at least gave america a direction to head in.

How Germany Builds Twice as Many Cars as the U.S. While Paying Its Workers Twice as Much

How Germany Builds Twice as Many Cars as the U.S. While Paying Its Workers Twice as Much | International Business US. | Scoop.it

NOTE: It's true that Germany manufactures about twice as many vehicles per year as the U.S. However, China, Japan and South Korea build over 40% of the world's annual output.

Frederick Allen wrote an excellent and extremely popular post at Forbes back in December, askingd how German auto companies can pay twice the wages of the USA and still be more successful. The average auto worker in Germany earned $67.14 per hour (salary + benefits); the average in the U.S. was $33.77. Yet Germany’s big three —BMW, Daimler, and Volkswagen—are very profitable.
