Also known as social media intelligence, this is the branch of business intelligence (BI) whose primary concern is monitoring and interpreting activity on social networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, or Pinterest. It can range from the most basic analysis, such as discovering which platforms have the most users discussing a specific brand, to more nuanced and granular breakdowns. It includes concepts such as social sentiment (the general “feeling” expressed towards your brand by social network users) and predictive analytics, which involves using historical data to make predictions about future activities.
