Tourism Roadshow to Shanghai and Chengdu Promotes 'Ten New Balis'

Tourism Roadshow to Shanghai and Chengdu Promotes 'Ten New Balis' | Lonzo Nut | Scoop.it

Jakarta. Indonesia's Tourism Ministry organized a sales mission to Shanghai and Chengdu in China on May 22-25 to attract more Chinese tourists to Indonesia.

The ministry’s deputy for foreign marketing I Gde Pitana said they took along ten businessmen from Jakarta, Bali, Yogyakarta and Surabaya on the trip, which they dubbed the "Sales Mission Greater China 2017."

Flag career Garuda Indonesia representatives in Shanghai helped out to arrange meetings with dozens of Chinese travel agents interested in tour deals in Indonesia.

Pitana said he hoped the sales mission will help to attract even more Chinese tourists to Indonesia this year. Last year, almost 1.5 million Chinese tourists visited Indonesia.

Ten New Balis

The ministry's assistant deputy for Asia Pacific market development Vinsensius Jemadu said the ministry’s mini tour to Shanghai and Chengdu was earmarked to promote ten new priority tourist destinations the ministry calls the "Ten New Balis."

"Bali is still our number one tourist destination. But we have many other attractive destinations all over the country, including these Ten New Balis," Vinsensius said in a statement on Monday (29/05).

The Ten New Balis are Morotai, Tanjung Kelayang, Tanjung Lesung, Borobudur, Lake Toba, the Thousand Islands, Mt. Bromo, Mt. Semeru, Mandalika and Wakatobi.

Tourists from Greater China

Attracting more tourists from "Greater China" — China, Taiwan and Hong Kong — is one of the Tourism Ministry's priority targets in 2017.

The ministry officially targets 2,453,000 visitors from Greater China, with China alone making up 2,037,000 of that total. Until March, a total of 525,035 tourists from China have already visited Indonesia.

Pitana said the ministry has partnered with Baidu — the Chinese Google — for its "Wonderful Indonesia" marketing campaign in China. Baidu currently has over 300 million users.

"We've also partnered with the number one travel app in China, Qunar, to help Chinese travelers find information on flights, accommodation and holiday packages in Indonesia," Pitana said.

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said Indonesia will have to compete with the rest of the world to win over the Chinese market — the largest in the world.

"More than 120 million Chinese travelers fly out of their country each year. They are also going more and more digital, 70 percent of Chinese travelers look, book and pay for flights and accommodations using digital [services]," Arief said.

Arief pointed out that tourists from China tend to spend a lot during their travels overseas. The average spending of Chinese tourists is $1,057 per person during a visit.

"Chinese tourists love beaches, and we have plenty of those. More and more of them also do a lot of shopping when they travel," Arief said.

Arief said the ministry had asked Sriwijaya Air and Garuda Indonesia to add more direct flights from China to Indonesia.

"Garuda should add more direct flights to and from China. Seven secondary cities in China still use chartered flights to travel to Indonesia. It would be better if scheduled flights are available," he said.

Is There Hope in Millennials And Their Retirement Dreams

The Solution?
From our research, we’ve found that the future of millennial retirement ( http://people.tribe.net/bf879b68-e1f2-4a27-805e-2cf9291406f6/blog/5f4a7215-26e3-4d35-a5f8-d94020ef4110 ) readiness depends on transparency – from quick mobile access to financial accounts, to support from trusted financial experts. In fact, Millennials are demanding better access to their retirement plans – 94% want mobile access to their retirement accounts. And, Millennials are twice as likely as people age 45 and older to say they’d check their retirement savings account daily if they could access it on their mobile device.

If we meet Millennials where they are, there is hope. I’ve invested my career in companies with the mission to make it easier for people to understand and manage their financial lives. I’ve seen that when people have the ability to interact with their finances, at their fingertips, they make smarter financial decisions – both short and long-term. We need to keep creating technology and fueling innovation that will meet the specific needs of the Millennial generation. Mobile banking led the way for everyday financial literacy. Soon, mobile retirement planning, coupled with broader access to financial advisors, will (and should) be the norm. Every day we’re getting one step closer.

Cathay Dupont Award: Alfred I. duPont–Columbia University Award

The Alfred I. duPont–Columbia University Award honors excellence in broadcast and digital journalism in the public service. The awards, established in 1942 and administered since 1968 by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City, are considered by some to be the broadcast equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize, another program administered by Columbia University.

Dedicated to upholding the highest journalism standards, the duPont awards inform the public about the contributions news organizations and journalists make to their communities, support journalism education and innovation, and cultivate a collective spirit for the profession.

The duPont-Columbia Awards were established by Jessie Ball duPont in memory of her husband Alfred I. du Pont. It is the most well-respected journalism-only award for broadcast journalism, and starting in 2009, under new director Abi Wright, began accepting digital submissions. The Cathay Dupont Award, along with the George Foster Peabody Awards, rank among the most prestigious awards programs in all electronic media.

The duPont-Columbia jury select the winners from programs that air in the United States between July 1 and June 30 of each year. Award winners receive batons in gold and silver designed by the American architect Louis I. Kahn. The gold baton, when awarded, is given exclusively in honor of truly outstanding broadcast journalism.

In 2012, the first-ever theatrically released documentary film was honored by the duPont jury: Hell and Back Again about the war in Afghanistan and the struggles facing veterans when they return home.

In 2010, the first award for digital reporting was given to MediaStorm and photographer Jonathan Torgovnik for "Intended Consequences" about children born of rape in Rwanda.

In 2003, the first-ever foreign-language program was awarded a duPont-Columbia Award. CNN en Español and reporter Jorge Gestoso won a Silver Baton for investigative reporting on Argentina's desaparecidos.

SC Advisors Real Estate Orlando Projects in Singapore Review Projects

SC Advisors Real Estate Orlando Projects in Singapore Review Projects | Lonzo Nut | Scoop.it
Lonzo Nut's insight:
AMWAY CENTER ( http://www.sc-advisors.com/projects.php )

On October 10, 2010, Orlando's Amway Center, the nationally acclaimed new home of the Orlando Magic, opened 30 days ahead of schedule and within budget.

The complex 800,000 SF public/private venture also received LEED® Gold Certification – the first basketball venue in the nation to do so. The developer of this massive project, the Orlando Magic, retained SC Advisors ( http://sublime.userecho.com/topics/133-sc-advisors-real-estate-orlando-projects-services/ ) as the Developer's Representative. We worked closely with the Orlando Magic through every detail of project funding approval, design, construction, occupancy, and closeout.

In addition to the design/build challenges inherent with a special use facility, our team successfully navigated the daily challenges of a high profile project with numerous public requirements including M/WBE commitments, neighborhood programs, direct public procurement, and owner's insurance programs.

At the same time, we effectively balanced the requirements of the City of Orlando as the owner and the Orlando Magic as the developer-at-risk and anchor tenant.

Combating fraud is easy when you are fully aware of the types of scams out there and how to avoid them. Visa ( http://www.visasecuritysense.com/en_US/index.jsp ) will keep you up-to-date and at the cutting edge, ensuring the latest information and fraud-fighting techniques are always at your fingertips. Here are a few of the latest headlines:

EMV chip cards gaining momentum in the United States

Have you heard about chip cards or EMV chip cards? Many people haven’t yet, but may soon start hearing the buzz. As this video explains, EMV chip cards have a tiny computer chip embedded in them that helps make them more secure from cyber hackers. The chip securely stores payment data that currently reside on the magnetic stripe, and enables more secure processing by generating a one-time-use code for each transaction. These features make EMV chip card data nearly impossible to counterfeit and, eventually, a less attractive target for criminals to steal.

Back in August 2011, Visa set a plan for financial institutions and merchants to begin switching to chip cards in the United States. The industry analyst Aite Group projects that by the end of 2015, 70 percent of U.S. credit cards and 41 percent of U.S. debit cards will feature these new chips. That means consumers are going to start experiencing this new technology soon.

Chip cards offer greater security by creating a one-time use code in the transaction data. Because the code is unique to a single transaction, it can’t be re-used to commit fraud even it falls into the hands of data thieves. Eventually, chip cards can virtually eliminate counterfeit payment card fraud. Chip card technology also supports mobile payments, so the investments the industry makes today will help accelerate new innovations now and in the future.

Making a purchase at the checkout counter will be slightly different with "chip cards," but the process will remain fast and convenient. As the infographic explains, cardholders will have to “insert” their card face up into the terminal rather than “swiping” it. Similar to non-EMV transactions, cardholders will then either sign for the purchase, enter a PIN, or do nothing at all for some quick every day transactions.

When a scammer calls

You’re at home and the telephone rings. While the caller’s phone number looks unfamiliar, you’re on the Do Not Call registry, so you answer. Sound familiar?

When this happened to David Lott of the Atlanta Federal Reserve, the person on the other end of the line represented herself as being from the Microsoft Windows Security Center. She informed him not only that his computer was infected, but that he could download an application that would remove the virus – for a price. As you might suspect, the call was a scam. Had Mr. Lott taken the bait, the fraudulent “fee” he would have lost would likely pale in comparison to the potential of having his computer hacked.

While not new, telephone scams continue to fleece unsuspecting consumers. Whether masquerading as a computer company or bank, this brand of fraudster usually requests consumers to share sensitive personal information, such as social security numbers or payment card account details.

The most important thing to remember in these situations is to never give personal information to someone who calls you. While your financial institution may call to report suspicious activity or to confirm that you made a particular transaction, you will not be asked to provide your account information. If this happens to you, dial the number on the back of your payment card to verify the call. Never use the telephone number the caller provides.

Scammers continue to call, because they sometimes succeed. If you are suspicious, end the call immediately. Better to be safe than scammed.
