VWBPE MOOC: VWBPE MOOC

VWBPE MOOC: VWBPE MOOC | Virtual Worlds Calling | Scoop.it

VWBPE is over for another year, but is it? The virtual world tours were moved to a post-conference MOOC that starts today.

Would you like to explore more virtual worlds? Perhaps you heard something at the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education conference and would like to see how this might apply in your teaching and learning practice?
Consider participating in the 2013 VWBPE MOOC - Virtual Worlds Explorations.  There are 2 levels:
1. Just the tours please.
2. Engaging in the MOOC discussions about the tours.

Each week there will be 1 or 2 tours to virtual world environments, hosted by the people who developed the virtual learning environments. We will start in AvayaAlive on Monday 29 July, finishing the week of 19 August with Jokaydia Grid. Seven tours in all.

What do I do now?
Go to the VWBPE MOOC site http://vwbpe.kamedia-interactive.com/

Choose either:
*       MOOC Starting Course (for just the tours) or
*       MOOC Basics (if you want the full meal deal, discussions and articles).  You will be asked to create a new account with MOOC Basics that will give you full access to the course.

video vidi visum : virtual : What video games offer democratic participation

[cross-posted from Valuable Games] As President Obama recognized in his Open Government Directive, transparency is only the first step towards a more vibrant democracy. The bigger problem has always been fostering widespread participation. After all, one of the most vexing problems facing today’s government – regulatory capture of an agency by special interests – flourishes […]

The role of games in digital learning

The role of games in digital learning | Virtual Worlds Calling | Scoop.it
Guest blog by Jason Butler, Game Designer, Sponge UK

At present, the main argument for games in digital learning is user engagement. Trying to move the learner’s perception from something they ‘have’ to do, to something they ‘want’ to do.

But there is a deeper value to games in learning and the skills they can help to

2Lei in Second Life - "RESPECT", LEA 8

2Lei in Second Life - "RESPECT", LEA 8 | Virtual Worlds Calling | Scoop.it

Respect is the title selected for the 2017 2LEI art recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, marked on November 25th. Open now through until the end of 2017, this is one of the most involved art installations I’ve visited in Second Life, presenting the work of some 71 visual and music artists either directly or in supporting roles, with no fewer than fifteen primary art display areas. While marking International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the subject for the installation casts a wider net for Respect – including as it does respect for women, children, individuals, sexual orientation, race, self, and those around us. This makes for a very involved series of installations which requires time – possibly over more than one visit – to fully take in and appreciate. To help with this there is a range of events scheduled through the rest of the year, details of which can be found at the 2Lei blog.

Better Learning in Games

KiwiBelma's insight:

"This is a guide to inform next generation learning game designs. It is an introduction to the core

approaches used by many learning game designers, including the Learning Games Network and The
Education Arcade at MIT.
The aim of this guide is not to impose a new game development method—but rather to present a
learning design approach to be integrated with current best practices in game design."
