How To Overcome The iPad Learning Curve - Teachers With Apps

How To Overcome The iPad Learning Curve - Teachers With Apps | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

" Technology can make life a lot easier in the classroom. In the past criticism was often aimed at new technology coming into the classroom, recent advances in tech have made drastic changes to the learning environment.

This has actually been the case for numerous generations. When televisions were introduced to schools and kindergartens, many people were outraged at the invasion of technology into the educational process but of course, television became an integral part of the learning process. It is therefore fair to say that when used properly, tablets such as the iPad can be used effectively in the classroom."

How Technology Is Changing The Skills We Need To Learn | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

Steve Hargadon: Escaping the Education Matrix

Steve Hargadon: Escaping the Education Matrix | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it
“People are almost in this Matrix-like existence,” says education thought-leader Steve Hargadon. “They don’t question schooling. How do you tell a story that opens the door to rethinking what people have believed for decades? So much in their lives depends on that story being what they think it is. How do you tell a new story that involves people reclaiming their destinies, children not being defective, and learning not being owned by one organization?”

The Global Search for Education: Education and Jobs

The Global Search for Education: Education and Jobs | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

"The Future of Employment study makes clear that what matters most today is what you can do with what you know, rather than how much you know."
- Dr. Tony Wagner

We need to create schools that coach students for skill and will, in addition to teaching content. If we don't make this transition quickly, a growing number of our youth will be unemployable at the same time that employers complain that they cannot find new hires who have the skills they need. - Dr. Tony Wagner

There is no doubt the type of jobs available today and in the future are different and will be different than they have been. Having said this, children learn in concrete ways and not in abstract ways based on distant objectives. That is an adult way of doing things in education.

En una sociedad apasionante...la Educación de siempre, ha dejado de interesar! | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

Amy Ragsdale's insight:

From the post:

A leader is nothing to do with rank. Leadership is a choice. Anyone who puts their self interest aside to protect the people next to them and improve things around them is a leader. It is therefore important to note that not all people in authority are leaders. Some are there entirely to look out for no one else but themselves. This is not leadership.

To Advance Education, We Must First Reimagine Society

To Advance Education, We Must First Reimagine Society | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it
Why haven't education reform efforts amounted to much? Because they start with the wrong problem, says John Abbott, director of the 21st Century Learning Initiative. Overhauling the educational paradigm means replacing the metaphor — the concept of the world and its inhabitants as machine-like entities — that has shaped the education system, as well as many other aspects of our culture.

Creating An iPad Workflow For Teachers, Students, And Parents - TeachThought

Creating An iPad Workflow For Teachers, Students, And Parents - TeachThought | Digital Learning, Technology, Education | Scoop.it

"Using tablets in the classroom–whether iPads, Androids, or surging Windows devices–is largely a matter of workflow.

If you can forgive a mixed metaphor, the traditional classroom sees the teacher as the both the director and the bottleneck of all productivity. They create assignments, assess proficiency, respond to assessment data, and refine planned instruction in light of constantly changing circumstances.

This is challenging in any context, but in 1:1 and mobile learning environments, it’s even more complex. With tablets, every student has both an information portal and a digital printing press. This means they can reach both communities and potential collaborators.

The above graphic from @ipadwells addresses this issue with a helpful graphic that visualizes a workflow, while offering up representative apps for each step of the process."
