Only in inner-city Melbourne could a plan for a tunnel that would pull traffic from busy streets be unpopular

Only in inner-city Melbourne could a plan for a tunnel that would pull traffic from busy streets be unpopular | vexnews | Scoop.it

There's an unofficial freeway that cuts right through inner-city Melbourne as drivers cross from the Airport or west through to some eastern suburbs. It drives people living there crazy and yet ideological denunciations of roads by environmentalists seem to hold sway in the electorate. Bizarre. They get what they deserve.

Some think new US miniseries "Political Animals" might be inspired by the Clintons | vexnews | Scoop.it

A former First Lady of the United States, who becomes Secretary of State and whose hubby gets caught up in a sex scandal. Sounds familiar? It's the horribly unlikely premise of a new US TV political miniseries with soapy characteristics, "Political Animals." It could be on Australian screens some time prior to 2017, although some ne'er-do-wells might download it first. Starring the moody Sigourney Weaver.

Greens not worthy of Labor preferences: ALP Left leader Jane Garrett

Greens not worthy of Labor preferences: ALP Left leader Jane Garrett | vexnews | Scoop.it

THE national vice-president of the ALP has declared Labor should never again automatically direct preferences to the Greens, accusing the minor party of being out to destroy the ALP and of "doing great damage" to progressive politics.

Jane Garrett, the state Labor member for the inner-Melbourne seat of Brunswick, and one of the most senior Left faction members in the party, has also accused the Greens of hypocrisy for happily accepting Liberal preferences to win the federal seat of Melbourne in 2010, but criticising Labor for considering putting the Liberals ahead of the Greens on preferences in the next election.

He also said the amount of shale gas in the US was "effectively infinite".

Powerful LNP boss urges Abbott to "stop playing the blame game" | vexnews | Scoop.it

Queensland LNP president Bruce McIver - and Clive Palmer ally - seems a bit unhappy with federal LeaderTony Abbott, which many will attribute to Abbott blocking the chieftain from taking the federal party presidency. McIver told the LNP conference meeting today: ""This will not be an easy (federal) election. Australians are desperately wanting change in government, but they want a change that will deliver real results, not just a change that brings about just more political games," he said.
"They are looking for a serious leadership ... and the coalition will have to clearly differentiate itself from Labor, stop playing the blame game, and set up a positive agenda as we go forward."

LNP boss says their massive Queensland win came in last week of campaign | vexnews | Scoop.it

Despite the LNP's historic landslide win, in which it secured an unprecedented 78 seats, Mr McGrath said the election was very tight.

Even Mr Newman's Ashgrove seat remained in doubt just days out from the March 24 poll, he said.

"No one believes me when I say this but on the Friday, eight days out from polling day, I couldn't find the 14 seats necessary for us to get government," he said.

"We did polling across our seats, I could get 11. Ashgrove wasn't in the 11. It was actually quite close."

Sydney Morning Herald's Paul Sheehan seems reasonably grateful to the up-market travel company that gave him good junket. Did they get good value for their $30K gift? Liberal MP's feud with bureaucrats over unpaid $8K New York hotel bill leaked to Tele | vexnews | Scoop.it

FEARING a diplomatic incident, Australian consular officials in New York have had to step in and settle an outstanding $8000 hotel bill for a Liberal MP who is still refusing to pay. Federal politician Steve Ciobo has vowed to fight the federal government in court over the account for a three-month stay at New York's ritzy Bristol Plaza late last year while he was on a US exchange program. Mr Ciobo, speaking from overseas, told The Daily Telegraph that he would be prepared to go to court to take on the department, claiming they were so incompetent that they ended up costing taxpayers more money.

In an email back to the department, he said: " I do not appreciate having my name sullied by departmental officers."

Greens are no longer Green says Richo

Greens are no longer Green says Richo | vexnews | Scoop.it

Former Labor minister Graham Richardson has had a gutful of the Greens he once nurtured: As far as the present debate about preferences goes, that too shows the impossibility of the Greens' negotiating style. The hypocrisy involved in their stance is breathtaking. Apparently it would be a disgrace for Labor to fail to preference the Greens and put Liberals or Nationals into the parliaments of Australia.

At the same time there is something noble about the Greens failing to preference Labor candidates and thereby causing Liberals and Nationals to win seats.

LADIES MAN: Tony Abbott boning up on n*pple clamps, sp*nking, k*nk & domination to get inside the female mind | vexnews | Scoop.it

There seems to be no limit to Tony Abbott’s commitment to women, reports a Sunday newspaper that probably won’t be around next year to see him elected our nation’s leader. They report him admitting to reading 50 Shades of Grey, so-called “mummy porn” that according to the dubious source of Wikipedia is “notable for its explicitly erotic scenes featuring elements of sexual practices involving bondage, discipline, sadism, and masochism.” That he admitted it to a newspaper known for its anti-Liberal sentiment was perhaps even more of a shock than his choice of in-flight entertainment.
