Choosing the Right Equine Veterinarian - TheHorse.com

Choosing the Right Equine Veterinarian - TheHorse.com | Veternarian | Scoop.it
Consider these nine qualities when choosing an equine veterinarian.
Lauryn Newman's insight:

My thoughts goal 3: I agree completely with this article! People these days are all about the costs of a procedure instead of the quality of the person taking care of your animal. In most cases the cheapest vet is not always the best vet to be working on your horse or your animal in general. In my opinion you should pick a veterinarian that specializes in that species of animal because there is so much information in just one animal that it makes it hard to remember the best treatments for more than one animal. I remember that a friend of mine had a cat that had a blockage in its bladder and she took it to a veterinarian that specializes in multiple types of animals and they said it would be best to humanly euthanize the kitten that was only 5 months old. She than decided to take it to a clinic that specializes in only cats and within hours that cat was fixed and was ready to go home within a few days. If my friend would have not taken it to this clinic the cat would have died. This can apply to any animal not just cats, with horses I would defiantly at the end of the day like to know that I picked the right veterinarian to work on my animals no matter what the cost.

Lauryn Newman's insight:

My thoughts, Goal 1: I have worked at a grooming salon in my past jobs and have found that there are many animals that come in that have severe matting and pure neglect. I truly believe that the way to keep your dog healthy, active and feeling its best is to maintain and take pride in their coat and nails. I find it very interesting that calcium has a positive effect on dogs and cats nails. My dream is to become a veterinarian and I am always looking to learn new things to help and better my animals. I think that the answer to getting people to understand how to make their dogs healthier is providing the information and educating the public!!!!!!

Deadly virus that kills cats sweeps through Indianapolis Animal Care and Control

Deadly virus that kills cats sweeps through Indianapolis Animal Care and Control | Veternarian | Scoop.it
An outbreak of a virus at Indianapolis Animal Care and Control has been a death sentence for dozens of cats at the city's shelter, and critics say it didn't have to get to this point.
Lauryn Newman's insight:

My thoughts goal 2: As a person that dreams to become a veterinarian it makes me sad to think that animals die every day and that people think it could have been prevented. As for the reason it could have been prevented I think that even with a veterinarian on staff it would still have made it hard to contain this virus, because there is no treatment or cure and they have so many cats that can come into contact with the virus. I don’t think that a veterinarian alone could have prevented this virus from spreading, however I do think that it is possible that less cats would have died as a result. We think the world of animals and I am sure that it pains everyone that works at that shelter to know that they are helpless to stop the virus from spreading but I truly believe that jumping to conclusions and blaming people is not the answer. I think that the shelter and their staff will figure out a way to contain and save as many cats lives as they possibly can.
