We enter a generation of sensory based technologies that are supposed to improve our quality of life. Personalized web design is about interpretation and delivery, in other words to implement the right experiences for the right users in the right moments for the right devices. And according to this short but useful article that's best achieved by adapting designs to contextual data like demographics, historical behavior and situation of use.

Hans's curator insight, February 26, 2013 5:45 PM

The number of "smart" entities with computing power, sensors and network connections is increasing when we enter the new paradigm called Internet of things. Many design opportunities will emerge as a consequence, especially in the area this article refers to as "home automation". And I can't wait for this future friendly vision to come true, when mobile devices will become our universal remote controls. Because technology will soon be spread around us and integrated in our daily environment so we can interact with the world in ways we recently couldn't imagine. In my opinion, such digital playground sounds like a dream for any UX designer. But in order to have as much fun as possible, I think the ambition to standardize and unify design languages must be thought through very carefully.

Hans's curator insight, February 19, 2013 9:02 AM

Mobile web design is obviously a hot topic at the moment, and it doesn't seem to cool down. I understand that, we need a boost to deal with the opportunities and limitations of varying screens and interaction techniques. But I think that the new paradigm will soon settle down, we will get used to it, mobile will become a part of the complete web design eco system, and the terminology will change when we adopt a device agnostic approach. Because even though screens are changing, people's needs stay the same. And until we find a unified design language for "Internet of things" let's learn as much as possible about mobile web design - because our future is on the run.
