3 Google Resources for Student Centered Writing by @shfarnsworth

3 Google Resources for Student Centered Writing by @shfarnsworth | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it

In a student-centered writing classroom, students may be in various stages in the writing process. To combat all of the organizational issues that may arise, it is important to equip students with not only the resources to aid in their endeavors, but also strategies to use when they find themselves with a plethora of information but little to no organization.

Gerald Carey's insight:

Wow. I'm not a language arts teacher but I know it is still my responsibility to help develop student literacy. It is always fascinating to see how language arts teachers (or in this case, an English teacher) go about scaffolding student work.

Here is a really good example of using the power of online applications to not only enhance student writing but to help students organise themselves.

I particularly liked using Google Drawing for "Hexagonal Thinking", illustrated above, to help students in the pre-writing stage.  Students can get ideas down, rearrange and colour them to show how ideas are connected and then use it to start the research phase of their writing.

Thank you very much Shaelynn Farnsworth, a guest blogger at the Alice Keeler site.

Great ideas to help students with their writing. I really like text, me, so. It is a simple, but powerful strategy to get more out of students's writing.

Constitution Drafting with Constitute and Google Docs | Comparative Constitutions Project | Using Google Drive in the classroom | Scoop.it

This iWhat happens when constitutional experts use Constitute and Google Docs to collaboratively draft constitutional content? DuringInternational IDEA‘s recent Constitution Building Technology Fair at the National Constitution Center, we asked seven experts to do just that. Check out this Google Docs video, or read Zachary Elkins’ piece on Medium, to learn more!

Gerald Carey's insight:

This is different.

The Constitutions Project is a collection of constitutions from around the world that can be used as a resource by governments (or anyone) to look at how other countries tackle constitutional issues.

In this video, Google Docs was then used to practice creating a constitution collaboratively.

Imagine doing this with classroom rules!
