If You're Liberal and You Think Hillary Clinton Is Corrupt and Untrustworthy, You're Rewarding 25 Years of GOP Smears - The Daily Banter

If You're Liberal and You Think Hillary Clinton Is Corrupt and Untrustworthy, You're Rewarding 25 Years of GOP Smears - The Daily Banter | US Politics - Foreign and Interior - Since Obama's Re-Election 2012 | Scoop.it
Obviously, Clinton carries with her more than 25 years in the white-hot public spotlight that Sanders doesn't -- despite his career in the Senate -- and over that length of time people have been able to form opinions of her and they're ones not likely to change at this point. What you know about Hillary is what you know about Hillary. There aren't a lot of surprises. Maybe you figure this is bad for her, but in truth it can be argued that this is a positive rather than a negative because there's nothing the Republicans can throw at her that we haven't already been fed to death. And when you take a step back and look at Clinton objectively -- which is admittedly difficult for many, even, or maybe particularly, on the left -- that's exactly the point. Hillary Clinton's reputation is largely the result of a quarter century of visceral GOP hatred.
Otir's insight:

You can say you don't want to vote for Hillary Clinton because she's scandal-prone and who wants to go through another four or eight years of that. But remember two things: One, no matter what Democratic candidate gets elected, he or she will face a daily trial by fire from irrationally outraged conservatives. Seven years of Barack Obama-fueled insanity proves that. Two, the supposed scandals that Clinton's been enduring for the past 25 years are mostly nonsense. The GOP wouldn't have it any other way. And they couldn't be happier that right now so many liberals have turned against the woman they utterly despise in favor of someone they're fully aware they can beat. Because they understand she's the only thing standing in their way in 2016. They can't beat HER. And they know it.

Why Obama won’t give the Ferguson speech his supporters want

Why Obama won’t give the Ferguson speech his supporters want | US Politics - Foreign and Interior - Since Obama's Re-Election 2012 | Scoop.it
The White House no longer believes Obama can bridge divides. They believe — with good reason — that he widens them.
Otir's insight:

It feels like no one believes that Obama can bridge divides anymore. Feels so utterly disappointing when we remember speeches like the one in Cairo in March 2008...

Going to Extremes: The Supreme Court and Senate Republicans’ Unprecedented Record of Obstruction of… — Medium | US Politics - Foreign and Interior - Since Obama's Re-Election 2012 | Scoop.it
Considering the nomination of a Justice to fill a vacancy on the nation’s highest court is one of the most solemn and consequential tasks…
Otir's insight:
This being another of these grueling electoral years is also a year of "most", as if extremism was reaching peaks. The intensity and violence of events - political and environmental - should be a serious signal for some soul searching of our own behaviors when it comes to dealing with our views of the world and expressing our opinions. Is it not time that we get it that the world is better off with balance and communication, rather than war and domination?

What Young Voters Don't Understand About Hillary

What Young Voters Don't Understand About Hillary | US Politics - Foreign and Interior - Since Obama's Re-Election 2012 | Scoop.it
I am one of those "over 65" women who belong to the faceless, aging "demographic" with a Hillary sign on my front lawn. For weeks I've listened, fists clenched, while 19-year-olds and media pundit...
Otir's insight:

I have actually stood for Hillary since the beginning of this campaign, as soon as she declared she would run, and I had foreseen the whole battle that is now so played out by those in the democrat field to explain why "yes a woman president but not that woman" and this such bs to me ~ and sadly the younger generations are buying into it blindly.

Every day that is going by so far is strengthening me in my will to support her and it has never meant that I have agreed with every single move she has ever taken through her career, but at least she took them and she is real.

I am very sad that the campaign is being so telling on the very little progress that has come to women's treatment in the public eye. There is an awful lot to be done. And as I had been so hopeful that the race issue would get a breath of fresh air with Barack Obama's election (for whom I had rooted against Hillary at the time), I am now lowering my hopes that Hillary's campaign and for me hopefully her election to being President of the USA will help shifting the gender male domination towards more respect and equality.

President Obama Delivers a Statement on the Shooting in South Carolina

President Obama Delivers a Statement on the Shooting in South Carolina | US Politics - Foreign and Interior - Since Obama's Re-Election 2012 | Scoop.it
President Obama delivers a statement on the shooting in Charleston, South Carolina.
Otir's insight:

"

At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn’t happen in other places with this kind of frequency. And it is in our power to do something about it.

/.../

The fact that this took place in a black church obviously also raises questions about a dark part of our history. This is not the first time that black churches have been attacked. And we know that hatred across races and faiths pose a particular threat to our democracy and our ideals.

Otir's insight:

Cancer is so emotional an issue but it doesn't mean we're approaching it the best way we can through policy. These kids wereliving proof of that.

I find it utterly shocking that it is always a matter of profit, that funding research is being part of a business-like mentality and not a building-life or repairing the world attempt so that we can restore our hope and our faith in having done something to re-tip the broken balance.

Obama campaign up with first 2012 ad

Obama campaign up with first 2012 TV ad: President Obama's campaign will go on air with its first ad buy of the 2012 cycle tomorrow — a largely positive spot that covers a lot of ground, attacking "secretive oil billionaires," touting the president's energy record (on the day that his administration put a stop to a controversial oil pipeline) and emphasizing the administration's ethics.

"While the President has made significant achievements to ensure a clean-energy future for our country, oil executives have funded an ad campaign attacking that progress. Fighting against investments in clean energy, these secretive corporate interests are determined to protect tax breaks for oil companies that the President wants to end," the reelection campaign said in a release.

The ad will air in Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin.
