The media is hooked on stories of overdoses being magically reversed by wonder drug naloxone, but what follows is arrests, pain, and more addiction.

I feel for those who suffer addiction, but to suggest that we should worry about their dignity and the pain of being saved by Narcan is, to put it mildly, a bit ludicrous. This article is like the man who says we shouldn't see movies that depict slavery as it really was because that is humiliating to the Black men and women descended from the slave. Hey, it's real and our job is to recognize the pain and the danger. Our responsibility is to make it clear that there are bad consequences.

If this treatment works for a significant number of addicts who wish to stay clean, it certainly is worth trying. For those who don't want to give up their addictions, perhaps just letting them have the heroin might be a better choice than the revolving cell doors.
